Overview

Translate a 10-page case study from English to Portuguese.

You have:

  • Fluency in English and Brazilian Portuguese for translation work.
  • Professional experience in translation, preferably in environmental or development contexts.
  • General understanding of global development and environmental issues.

UNDP’s Global Programme on Nature for Development brings together 3 different initiatives under one program – the Equator Initiative, the National Biodiversity Initiative, and the Global Forest Initiative – in order to identify, foster, showcase and celebrate nature-based solutions that help achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at local, national and international levels. Equator Prize case studies support a network of local sustainable development solutions. Case studies translated into communities' local language(s) advances recognition of these solution. Equator Prize translated case studies help us conduct more effective multi-stakeholder dialogues to accelerate forest action. We require Online Volunteers to help us translate a 10-page case study from English to Portuguese, and to help us proofread the translation. The case study will be emailed to the selected Online Volunteers. We will select 1 Online Volunteer to conduct the translation, and 1 to proofread.

    The Equator Initiative works with partners to identify, document, and analyze the success factors of local best practice, and to catalyze ongoing peer-to-peer learning, knowledge exchange and replication of best practice. The Equator Initiative accomplishes this through three action areas. the Equator Prize,the Equator Dialogues and Equator Knowledge. which is a research, documentation, and learning program. The case studies are part of Equator Knowledge. The New York Declaration on Forests is a global agreement to halve forest loss by 2020 and end it by 2030. The NYDF Global Platform is hosted by the Global Programme on Nature for Development at UNDP, in collaboration with Meridian Institute, Climate Focus and Climate Advisers. To achieve this objective it engages in mainstreaming of biodiversity conservation, market transformation, and capacity development activities. The translation of these materials helps us conduct more effective multi-stakeholder dialogues to accelerate forest action.

  • 11-20 hours per week / 6 weeks

    We are looking for candidates with professional experience with translation whose mother tongue is Brazilian Portuguese. General understanding of global development and environmental issues is important.
