Job Description

Background: The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future.

Scope of Service: The Economic Empowerment AmeriCorps will provide training on topics including job readiness, financial and digital literacy, and vocational English and support other activities to help recently arrived refugees and other immigrants attain economic self-sufficiency through employment. This position reports to the Economic Empowerment Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

•Deliver job readiness training and update curriculum as needed

•Facilitate financial and digital literacy to clients via individual or group sessions as needed

•Conduct vocational workshops including, but not limited to, cultural awareness in the workplace, new hire onboarding and documentation preparation, mock interviews, resume building, and job skills development

•Conduct pre- and post-assessments for program monitoring and evaluation

•Track attendance and client progress both electronically and in client physical files

•Provide employment and job placement support as needed, including employer outreach for job development and one-on-one client meetings

•Participate in all program meetings, development activities, and other meetings as needed

Qualifications

•Previous experience in adult education, teaching or tutoring English as a second language, or workforce development. Understanding financial basics is a plus.

•Strong communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English; additional language skills in one of the primary languages represented by Richmond client base desired

•Demonstrated experience working in a multicultural environment

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

•Must have a valid driver’s license and consistent access to reliable transportation

•Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident and authorized to work in the U.S.

•Must be at least 18 years old

•Must commit to one full term of service (through August 31, 2023)

Upon completion of service, AmeriCorps member will be eligible for an education award of approx. $3,247.50.

Proposed activities will be supported, in part, with federal funds from the AmeriCorps State program sub-granted through the Commonwealth of Virginia, Virginia Department of Social Services. Activities are contingent upon funding availability and award from AmeriCorps.
