UNICEF in the State of Palestine works to uphold the rights of children to access services and protection, from early childhood through to adolescence. Our objective is to ensure that every child in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, irrespective of background or circumstance, has an equal chance to fulfil their potential.

In the last three years, UNICEF in the State of Palestine has achieved a very high reach and engagement through its social media platforms. UNICEF-SoP would like to build on this and continue engaging with our audience, who are not only seek information but are willing to have important conversations on crucial issues concerning children’s wellbeing and rights. This position will support UNIEF-SoP’s strategic focus to ensure greater presence, understanding, participation and meaningful engagement with our online audiences through the development of high-quality content, research, community moderation and knowledge management.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Head of Section or his/her designated mandated representative(s), and in close collaboration with all programme sections, the UN Volunteer digital media Associate will undertake the following tasks: Content production:  Conceptualize and create engaging content for social media (copy, visuals, photo essays).  Pitch new approaches and angles for content.  Develop high-quality creative work, provide quality control over concepts and projects, contribute creative solutions and innovations that strengthen the UNICEF brand in the State of Palestine.  Generate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on the social media key performance indicators  Monitor partners, other UN platforms and relevant accounts to identify sharable content.  Produce a social media planning calendar to be shared on a weekly basis.  Archive social media calendars and social media assets.  Assist the communication section with additional tasks as required.

General public communications activities:  Produce high-quality communication documents in Arabic, English  Research, draft and edit digital communication materials (articles, press releases, human interest stories, fact sheets and others) for both traditional and modern media for advocacy, social mobilization and resource mobilization activities; contribute to the qualitative aspects of production (e.g. translation, graphic design);  Work on the appropriate and timely dissemination of advocacy and communication materials virtually to target audiences and participate in the evaluation of their impact.  Monitor the public perception of UNICEF in the country; recommend appropriate action to maintain a positive image for the organization.

Assist in the development of work plans that are consistent with UNICEF communications strategies, goals, objectives and activities; monitor compliance and provide support and guidance to ensure objectives are met, including performance planning, monitoring and appraisal; plan and monitor the use of communication budgetary resources;

Online strategy support:  Regularly update UNICEF-SoP’s social media channels (Twitter/Facebook/Instagram); assist in maintaining UNICEF’s web photo database by processing and uploading photos and captions (web-based training on web management and photo database can be organized).  Support UNICEF-SoP’s digital communication and web content development.  Support the development and reinforcement of already existing web tools in order to enhance the visibility of UNICEF and its partners.  Assist in positioning UNICEF as a knowledge leader and pioneer in the area of online communication and social media.  Ensure systematic information updates and propose content for social media platforms (photos, videos, posts and articles).

Community Engagement, Support the communication section to:  Coordinate, monitor, and manage direct communications on UNICEF- State of Palestine’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels.  Help employ community management best practices to encourage online audiences to participate in social media discussions, increase their understanding of our work for children and guide their journey to other UNICEF-owned channels.  Support the growth of UNICEF State of Palestine Facebook and Instagram channels through list building and monitoring performance.  Monitor current events, public opinion and press, identify issues and trends, and advise on appropriate digital media response.  Work with programme sections to identify stories and information that can be developed and shared on the social media platforms.

Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, creative writing or similar field.

The duty station for the assignment will be at East Jerusalem.

As is the case for UN staff and partners, the volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.

A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of ILS 4659.58 is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment.
