This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

OUHCHR office in Doha serves as a regional hub and center of excellence in the areas of human rights training, education knowledge management and documentation. It contributes to the implementation of OHCHR’s mandate in the region by: - Strengthening the application of human rights norms, skills and values in the region through human rights education, training, knowledge management and documentation. - Strengthening the effectiveness of human rights education and training by OHCHR, UN partners, and regional and national actors through the application and dissemination of best-practice methodologies. - Facilitating knowledge management in OHCHR’s key areas of engagement in the region.

The Centre has two main units, namely: 1) Human Rights Education and Training Unit, 2) Knowledge Management and Documentation Unit. In addition to the administrative team which supports the performance of the functions of the Centre.

The UNV assignment will support the Centre in implementing its work plan on time and within budget.

Within the delegated authority and under the overall supervision of the Head of Centre and the direct supervision of the Knowledge Management Officer/Coordinator of the Knowledge Management and Documentation Unit, the UN volunteer will support the Knowledge Management and Documentation Unit in the development and dissemination of communications and knowledge management products through:

Content Creation:

  1. Utilize graphic design and video editing software (such as InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and Premiere Pro) to produce visually compelling, multi-media content such as brochures, flyers, infographics, training and events communications materials, newsletters, social media posts and videos.
  2. Develop clear and compelling written content for diverse communication materials, including website articles, newsletters, social media posts and promotional collateral.
  3. Assist in the planning and the development of content related to all relevant key global, regional and national events for social media and website dissemination.
  4. Capture photos and videos of key events and activities.
  5. Ensure consistency of messaging and branding as well as adherence to OHCHR guidelines across all content and communications products.

Digital Channels Management:

  1. Develop social media content calendar and manage and update UNTDC-OHCHR’s social media accounts.
  2. Publish on UNTDC-OHCHR’s website newly developed stories, press releases, publications, etc, and generate links for dissemination.
  3. Manage and maintain UNTDC-OHCHR’s website and coordinate with the technical teams for content and with HQ for IT requirements.
  4. Ensure consistency in branding across all digital platforms.
  5. Monitor social media platforms and website analytics and provide proposals to continuously enhance visibility and increase outreach to target audiences.
  6. Monitor and report UNTDC-OHCHR’s mentions and public perception on its work in the digital space and any other harmful comments.
  7. Work with external partners and stakeholders to enhance digital outreach and collaboration.
  8. Stay informed about digital communication trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  9. Pitch, integrate new and innovative approaches into digital communication strategies.

Reporting and Publications:

  1. Support the UNTDC-OHCHR team in the writing and development of internal reports.
  2. Support the UNTDC-OHCHR team in the design, editing and publishing of external reports and publications.
  3. Regularly update UNTDC-OHCHR’s media library with all developed multi-media assets including photos and videos and other materials on the Intranet.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Marketing, Design, Communications, Media, Information Technology or a related field.

• Expert knowledge of design and video editing software such as InDesign (mandatory), Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator etc. • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Experience creating content for and managing digital channels (social media platforms and websites) • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness;

National UN Specialist Volunteers in Qatar are entitled to:

  • Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) in the amount of QAR 13,339
  • Entry Lumpsum USD 400
  • Annual and learning leaves;
