Job Description

Job Overview: The Development & Communications Manager (DCM) works at a regional level with the Development Team, and is responsible for fundraising, developing and maintaining strategic relationships with external partners, public relations, communications. The DCM is manages the volunteer and in-kind donation programs for locations in Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose and Turlock. The DCM cultivates & stewards corporations, faith-based organizations, schools, CBOs, and other institutions, to enhance resource development in the region. The DCM manages the region’s external communications, including print, broadcast & social media, in coordination with HQ and the different sites. The DCM will also support proposal development and writing for submission to private fundraising. The DCM is part of IRC Northern California’s Development team.

Major Responsibilities:

Resource Development & Donor Relations

- Develop & execute a fundraising plan to meet cash & in-kind requirements. - Collaborate with Volunteer & Donation Coordinators of four sites to effectively meet cash and in-kind goals. - Represent IRC at volunteer and career fairs, fundraising events, and other community outreach opportunities.

- Be the IRC Northern California’s lead & point person in Taste of the IRC California, an annual fundraising event produced in collaboration with IRC San Diego and IRC Los Angeles. - Solicit corporations for event sponsorships, leveraging existing employee volunteer programs. - Collaborate with development staff to prepare solicitations for special fundraising campaigns such as The Welcome Center, Soft Landing Fund, Community Sponsorship, Year End Appeal, and other campaigns

Donation Management & Volunteer Engagement

- Recruit, train and supervise Volunteer & Donation Coordinators in the four Northern California offices. - Organize regular meetings as a local Community of Practice for the Volunteer & Donation Coordinators. - Working with HQ team, develop and ensure implementation of standards for NorCal offices of volunteer and intern service descriptions, recruitment, onboarding, retention and recognition. - Conduct outreach activities for volunteer recruitment, including building/maintaining relationships with local institutions, CBOs, and other community stakeholders. - Identify potential partner, community resource, and donor support, referring these back to IRC leadership, as appropriate for further cultivation. - Provide support to Volunteer Coordinators and local staff when issues arise around a volunteer situation that might require guidance or termination of volunteer services. - Other related duties as assigned.

Communications & Public Relations

- In coordination with HQ, maintain an enhanced NorCal website, ensuring updated & engaging content - Oversee production of IRC NorCal’s electronic newsletters to reflect local/regional programs & activities. - Oversee all social media platforms, writing and editing content as needed. - Oversee the production of quarterly Impact Reports, in collaboration with the QA & Data Coordinator. - Field all inquiries from print & broadcast media, in collaboration with HQ, local directors & program staff. - Convene town hall meetings and similar gatherings in order to update IRC’s community of stakeholders, while educating and recruiting potential donors, volunteers and constituents. - Represent IRC in community forums and stakeholder meetings as assigned. - Grow IRC NorCal’s Refugee Voice initiative, an effort meant to engage former refugees in telling their own stories and advocating for community leadership support.

Development Operations & Tracking

- Utilize Salesforce database to enter and manage donor data, process gifts and acknowledgements as needed. - Utilize Integra to maintain appropriate documentation for cash, volunteer time and in-kind donations - Develop and ensure implementation for in-kind donations outreach, tracking and reporting that is standard across the offices. - Gather aggregate data about volunteer services to report and to use to evaluate and improve programming across the offices and for each office uniquely.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to: Development Director

Position directly supervises: Volunteer & Donations Coordinators in four sites

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: Grants Manager, HQ Communication staff, Community Engagement colleagues, direct service Program Managers, Site Directors, Executive Director

External: Individual donors, corporations, faith-based organizations, schools, and community organizations offering volunteer, cash and in-kind support.

Job Requirements:

· Undergraduate degree required. Preferably with an emphasis in communication, non-profit management, human resources, international development or and relevant field of study.

· Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated success in fundraising, communications, and volunteer management.

· Excellent Microsoft Office skills and ability to learn new computer applications rapidly.

· Deep understanding of program management and human resource management principles and experience managing diverse teams.

· Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

· Flexible and able to handle pressure well.

· Experience developing and providing orientations and trainings.

· Strong organizational skills in a complex, multi-tasking environment and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

· Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with current and prospective donors and volunteers, partner agencies, multi-cultural clients and colleagues on all levels.
