Under Goal 2, our Global Internal Communication team focuses on increasing staff awareness and engagement to accelerate the achievement of our global targets. We curate inspiring stories showcasing how colleagues and teams worldwide contribute to these targets, fostering scalable and sustainable impact aligned with the SDGs. By sharing these endeavors, we aim to promote the application and expansion of similar strategies, approaches, and innovations globally, accelerating our progress for children on a global scale.

To support this effort, we are currently seeking an experienced online volunteer writer.

The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of crafting compelling stories that explore innovative approaches, positive transformations, and developmental impact across various fields. This role requires strong research and interviewing skills, exceptional storytelling abilities, and a passion to make a difference through writing.

Under the guidance of the Internal Communication Manager and collaborating closely with various teams across UNICEF, the writer will contribute to the development and production of content for UNICEF’s global internal communication channels.

The tasks would include:

• Research and analyze relevant data and reports on the latest developments, trends and challenges related to the achievement of UNICEF’s child-focused targets in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan (SP) and the SDGs. Priority issues will include health, nutrition, education, child protection, poverty reduction, and water, sanitation, and hygiene.

• Identify and develop story ideas that highlight practical solutions, successful initiatives, positive outcomes, and feature inspiring individuals and teams working across the organization to accelerate the achievement of UNICEF’s global SP and SDG targets.

• Interview relevant stakeholders, experts, and individuals to gather firsthand accounts and insights.

• Produce high-quality written content, such as articles, features and blogs. Apply storytelling techniques to engage and inspire readers, while maintaining a balanced solutions-focused and evidence-based approach.

• Collaborate with editors, designers, and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy, coherence, and visual appeal of the content.

• Meet deadlines and deliver articles that adhere to established UNICEF editorial guidelines.

• Proven experience as a freelance writer, journalist, or content creator, with a strong portfolio showcasing your ability to produce engaging, impactful, and solutions-oriented stories.

• Sound understanding of global development challenges, including their causes, impacts, and potential solutions. Knowledge of UNICEF and its priority areas.

• Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to bring to life the experiences, perspectives, and achievements of individuals and organizations driving positive change.

• Ability to research and analyze complex topics and distill information into clear, accessible content.

• Familiarity with solutions journalism principles, including evidence-based reporting and impact measurement.

• Excellent writing skills, including the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms.

• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.

• Proficiency in digital content creation tools and platforms.

• Detail-oriented with strong editing and proofreading skills.

• A positive attitude, curiosity, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new topics and challenges.
