Contract
This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.
MDF intends to formalize all various aspects of past conservation work at Kamiali Wildife Management Area (KWMA) and Waria watershed conservation area into a formal method that can be adapted in other watersheds. The formal method will aim to contain and combine the social, economic, and environmental facets of community protection and the future management of the watershed in Waria Valley.
To that end, MDF seeks the support of Online Volunteers through this assignment. By completing an effective research proposal, its data and findings will help secure the funding that is required to carry out the research at the GIU WIWO watershed. This is because the research proposal will function as a framework for the research itself and therefore will help its overall success. Moreover, the research proposal will provide a theoretical background, which functions as validation and factual evidence apropos of the research that is aimed to be carried out at the GIU WIWO watershed- this is necessary for ensuring the possibility of securing the funding.
The proposal aims to achieve the formalization of sustainable community-based ecological management as a formal procedure for national implementation. This will be attained through all of MDF`s past projects and data in the conservation work in the Huon basin which will strive to constitute a systematic approach to achieving sustainable management of community resources, with processes ranging from community consultation to community mobilization, community education and training, community assessment and articulation of the social, economic and environmental needs, and as a result, to meet the challenges facing the community.
This exercise will help in community development and implementation of an ongoing management plan, for ongoing monitoring and assessment of of the watershed. Online Volunteers' contribution will also support MDF's objective in community development in Papua New Guinea and advancing the UN SDG in the areas of conservation, environment, and climate change.
MDF requires the expertise of four Online Volunteers who can support MDF through this online assignment, specifically in proposal development that will enable the Foundation to secure additional funding to carry out a study at the GIU WIWO watershed in Waria Valley, Morobe Patrol Post located in the Huon District of Morobe Province. The research itself will involve remote sensing, water quality assessment, ecology, environmental assessment, as well as socio-economic assessment specifically targeting the DZIA-speaking communities in the Waria Valley specifically the GIU WIWO watershed.
All aspects and details of the study proposal, including the study`s methodology, will be presented to the selected Online Volunteers.
The task division includes: - proposal drafting - literature review for the proposal drafting purpose - remote sensing - analyzing the data attained in this study
MDF requires the support of candidates with PhD who have experience in conservation work, and remote sensing and have published papers related to climate change, environment, and conservation. Volunteers who have knowledge in water chemistry and environment monitoring are also encouraged to apply.
PhD students are strongly encouraged to apply.
