The Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA) is a comprehensive program that seeks to integrate sustainability principles into infrastructure planning, design, construction, and management processes. It brings together governments, private sector entities, international organizations, and civil society stakeholders to collaborate on advancing sustainable infrastructure solutions in Asia. The overarching goal of SIPA is to promote infrastructure development that not only supports economic growth but also enhances environmental quality, social equity, and resilience to climate change. SIPA represents a holistic approach to promoting sustainable development through infrastructure investment. By integrating sustainability principles, innovation, inclusivity, and resilience into infrastructure planning and implementation processes, SIPA aims to create a more sustainable and prosperous future for the people of Asia. Through collaborative efforts and strategic partnerships, SIPA endeavors to catalyze transformative change in infrastructure development and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in the region.

UNDP country office Indonesia as one of the SIPA partners will support the Government of Indonesia through Kementerian PPN/ Bappenas by promoting and supporting the sustainable and low-carbon infrastructure through Refused Derived Fuel (RDF). RDF holds promise as a sustainable solution for waste management in Indonesia, offering environmental, social, and economic benefits. RDF is emerging as a sustainable solution for waste management worldwide, including in Indonesia, where rapid urbanization and industrialization have led to escalating waste generation. RDF is a type of fuel produced by shredding and dehydrating non-recyclable waste materials such as plastics, paper, textiles, and wood. The resulting material is then processed into pellets or fluff, which can be used as an alternative fuel source in various industries, including cement kilns, power plants, and manufacturing facilities. RDF not only diverts waste from landfills but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and lessens reliance on fossil fuels, making it an environmentally sustainable option for waste management.
