This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

MDF's community development initiatives are aimed at improving the quality of living of the rural communities in Papua New Guinea. To do this, one of its projects is to support the District Administration in Morobe Province to grow and ferment cocoa as a way to help the rural poor community sustaining their living apart from gardening and fishing. As part of the project, establishing a Cocoa Fermentary building is required to be used by the community, thus MDF intends to seek donor support to fully accomplish and implement the project.

To that end, MDF is seeking the support of three online volunteers to help in the designing of a Cocoa Fermentary building in a remote village in Huon Gulf Morobe Province. This design is essential to support MDF in securing Donor support for implementing this project for the sustainable living of the community in Kobo Village outside of Lae City. The design, developed by the volunteers, will be included in a proposal for submission to donors.

The task involves the designing of a Cocoa Fermentary in Kobo Village outside Lae City in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea.

Specifically, the design will need to be appropriate for the tropical region and utilize both sunlight and heat for fermenting cocoa, thus the Online Volunteers will be assigned one of the following tasks: 1. Volunteer one will carry out desktop research on the type of cocoa fermentary available, the materials that are used for the construction, and other vital information. 2. Volunteer two will carry out the design of the building. 3. Volunteer three will do an estimate costing involved in the construction and the entire project lifespan.

The design created by the three volunteers will be attached to the proposal for securing donor support for implementing this project.

At the end of the assignment, Online Volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation from the UNV upon completion of the task.

Volunteers must have experience in designing a building. Must have a Degree in Architecture and Building. Students doing their PhD in a relevant field are encouraged to apply.
