Domestically, our 28 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

The Data & Evaluation department exists to increase impact for refugees and New Americans in Utah by designing outcome-driven projects and programs, monitoring and evaluating those programs against intended and unintended outcomes, and using what we learn to improve interventions and to advocate for program funding and clients’ interests.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:

The Monitoring & Evaluation Intern will play a central role in the IRC SLC’s research and data tracking initiatives. They will assist with implementation of IRC SLC’s annual Client Experience Survey, assist program managers design and implement data tracking systems for new projects, assist in data analysis/review, and help ensure that data is collected and communicated accurately and effectively to various stakeholders.

COMMITMENT:

• 15-20 hours per week for 3 months with the possibility of extending longer

o First Cohort: August 19th – December 6th

o Second Cohort: September 9th – December 20th

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinate with MEL Manager to implement annual Client Experience Survey and Client Influence Strategy, incorporating client feedback on the services we provide 30%

• Assist MEL Coordinator in data quality reviews, data cleaning, and report analysis. 20%

• Design program-specific guides for Data Review Meetings, where program managers and other relevant staff come together to discuss progress toward targets, trends, and strategies for overcoming barriers to success. 20%

• Ensure program data dashboards, research findings, and client feedback are communicated to internal and external audiences in a clear, compelling, and compassionate manner. 10%

• Assist program managers and coordinators in developing data tracking systems for new initiatives or new reporting requirements. 10%

• Collaborate with program teams to develop and pilot qualitative and quantitative client feedback collection tools. 10%

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. The intern will deepen understanding of M&E design and use in a non-profit humanitarian setting.

2. The intern will gain professional experience related to data review, visualization, analysis and data for decision-making.

3. The intern will gain professional experience coordinating projects across teams.

4. The intern will learn to design and implement data collection tools to improve program impact.

5. The intern will gain hands-on experience in the practical aspects of data collection in a non-profit humanitarian setting.

Qualifications REQUIREMENTS:

• University or Masters’ Level coursework in Data Analysis, Program Design, M&E, or similar topics.

• Experience coordinating or managing projects with multiple teams or team members.

• Experience developing data collection tools, both qualitative and quantitative

• Strong written communication skills.

• Strong Microsoft Office skills; ability to work with a variety of data management systems.

• Experience with Salesforce and PowerBI preferred.

This is an unpaid internship position. No financial compensation, including compensation for relocation, is available.
