Established in 1948, the World Health Organization serves as the directing and coordinating authority for public health within the United Nations system. The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) is one of 6 Regional Offices globally that serves 22 Member States (including the occupied Palestinian territories). WHO seeks to promote health, ensure everyone can attain the highest level of health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable through partnerships, people and countries.

The Country Support Programme Officer will be supporting particularly the work related to the country cooperation strategies (CCS) through the development and monitoring of its activities. Considering the Region’s specific priorities and challenges, the UNV will contribute in moving the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Director’s Vision 2023: health for all, by all closer towards its objective, to make a measurable impact at country level.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Transformation Team Lead or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Country Support Programme Officer will:

•Assist in the work related to the Country Cooperation Strategies (CCSs) by supporting its development and monitoring the activities, and updating the monitoring tools and repository of relevant documents •Support peer-to-peer work among country offices and the regional office network regarding the work on CCS. •Provide input towards the integration of gender, equity and human rights in the CCSs based on the conceptual frameworks and the organization mainstreaming focus. •Support activities to strengthening the work on United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). •Provide coordination with relevant stakeholders and technical support for organizing various initiatives and activities such as townhall meetings, seminars and other events (meeting logistics and arrangements, preparing agendas, speaking points, appealing presentations and other background material) •Monitor and regularly report on the work plan implementation and on its progress and results. •Support all CCU meetings at global, regional and country level particularly with preparing background and visibility material and logistics. •Assist in providing reporting or visibility products to internal stakeholders, Member States or the public (background briefings, attractive presentations, speaking points, infographics and other relevant materials). •Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Results/expected outputs:

•As an active WHO team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to WHO and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: oRegional collaboration and development of CCSs enhanced. oInnovative and newer methods of improved outreach across country offices regarding CCU activities. oProviding guidance and expertise on strategizing implementation of CCU activities and particularly activities related to CCSs.
•Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment •A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed
