Contract

The Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) Unit at IOM Egypt supports relevant Governmental authorities in enhancing their capacities to manage borders efficiently in a coordinated and integrated way. Current and upcoming interventions include extensive training, equipment and infrastructure provision programme for different Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Finance departments mandated with border management in Egypt on various technical topics, policy support, initiatives related to International Migration Law (IML), rule of law, rights-based border management, Integrated Border Management (IBM), Humanitarian Border Management (HBM), maritime law and SAR (Search and Rescue), countering-cross border crime, development and trade, legal identity (migrant registration, biometrics, travel document standards) and cross border cooperation with neighboring countries in the above domains including implementation of international agreements in support of humane and orderly migration. Under the overall supervision of the Project Officer- Immigration and Border Governance (IBG), the successful candidate will be providing technical and administrative support to the thematic programme in support of border management authorities in the Arab Republic of Egypt.. S/he will also provide inputs in the IBG projects at IOM Egypt in the area of SAR, integrated border management (IBM), border control and trade and development and international cooperation in these areas.

Under the direct supervision of IBG Programme Manager, the Research and Project Implementation Assistant will:

  1. Support development of high quality research products within the Immigration and Border Governance portfolio on policies, legislation, and current developments in Egypt and the region related to the portfolio.
  2. Support development of high-quality publications under the Immigration and Border Governance portfolio for the benefit of the Egyptian government and IOM.
  3. Contribute to drafting detailed concept notes for projects.
  4. Maintain an up-to-date database, in particular related to border management, migration, human rights, cross-border crime and economic development.
  5. Collaborate with relevant departments to gather necessary information and insights for the research products and concept notes.
  6. Contribute to drafting of briefing notes, background papers, and policy briefs.
  7. Support legal and research support during negotiations and activities with government officials and other stakeholders in such fields as human rights, cyber security, and economic development through international trade and border management matters overall.
  8. Keep the mission and unit management updated with the latest developments and trends in migration and border management areas to provide accurate and relevant information.
  9. Work closely with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and information sharing.
  10. Support the organization of and participate in meetings, conferences, and other events as required.
  11. Provide administrative support to the project team, including scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and maintaining project files
  12. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of IOM.
