Communications plays a pivotal role in raising WRI Indonesia’s profile and advance the goals of its strategy. Our strategic communications and engagement work is integrally connected to our research and data analysis and aims to draw in and motivate external stakeholders and partners to drive change and deliver impacts.

Job Highlight

The Content Officer is responsible to raise and strengthen WRI Indonesia Tanah Papua regional office’s profile (its works, teams, experts, communities, and other stakeholders) by delivering a strategic content that resonate not only on regional but also national and international level.

The Content Officer will work together with Communications Team and Tanah Papua Regional Team to develop and implement communications content strategies including planning, production, and decide the most suitable distribution

through multiple communications channels (website, social media, blog, publications, media relations, events and other activities).

This position will be based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangement and high travel demand to Tanah Papua region. Reporting to the Papua Regional Senior Manager and the Communications Manager, this position is expected to engage and work with the rest of the communications, project team, and various relevant stakeholders.

What You Will Do

STRATEGY

  • Lead the content planning, production, and distribution for Tanah Papua Regional teams. The scope of work includes, but not limited to communications materials development, events management, media engagement, video development, writing, and social media engagement.
  • Create clear, concise messaging to advance impact.
  • Work with the Communications Manager, Senior Communications Coordinators and Tanah Papua Regional team, as well as other regional team managers and leads, to advance projects impact.
  • Ensuring the produced materials contain the targeted messages and delivered through the right medium. Materials include but are not limited to advertisements, videos, brochures, press releases, slide deck, letters, etc.
  • Develop ideas for interactive media pieces including infographics, slideshows, charts, and videos, and support their design and promotion.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with various key stakeholders (government, donors, funding agencies, public leaders, etc.) to improve the image of the organization and open avenues of opportunities.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Coordinate the narrative and messaging that WRI Indonesia delivers at the Papua regional level.
  • Set and continually manage project with Papua Regional team members.
  • Coordinate with relevant team members or external vendors.

OUTREACH

  • Implement developed outreach strategies, particularly for Papua Regional projects.
  • Support coordination of media outreach. Assist with proactive outreach such as pitching, research, handling incoming requests, and monitoring daily news coverage.
  • Plan events for publication launches, round-table discussions, meetings, and other announcements. This includes engaging with third-party vendors and consultants.
  • Develop and maintain website content.
  • Coordinate outreach to partners and stakeholders via email communications, events, and other opportunities.
  • Develop ideas, write, and edit a variety of internal and external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, newsletters, op-eds, website content, and more.
  • Build and maintain a social media presence, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.
  • Develop branded marketing materials, such as brochures and PowerPoints.

SUPPORT

  • Support the team in communications tools (slide deck, letters, etc.) to make sure the team equipped with the right and aligned messages through the right medium;
  • Support and manage communications strategies Papua Regional for reports, events, conferences, and news opportunities including media content
  • Support Papua Regional team to build their skills, maximize their reach, and backfill duties when necessary;
  • Support the development of compelling fundraising materials of Papua Regional, including proposals and presentations;
  • Monitor and support the publications process, including outreach planning, production, and distribution;
  • Provide general administrative support, such as scheduling, event logistics, and other responsibilities as needed;
  • Support and promote the institutional development and program of WRI Indonesia as needed.

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields;
  • Minimum of. 2 years of working experience in communications field
  • Articulate, versatile, highly skilled writer with professional writing experience (professional clips or writing samples preferred);
  • Experience in working with a content management system (CMS)
  • Ability to take notes and identify key decisions and follow-up actions.
  • Strong proofreading and copy-editing skills.
  • Ability to produce drafts of basic communications products: blurbs, blog posts, press releases.
  • Familiarity in the use of basic Microsoft and other software tools: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and common social media tools such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and other emerging communications tools such as media tracking tools, project management (Asana), Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and others.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with various stakeholders from various backgrounds including Indonesian government officials;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team;
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners;
  • Understanding of social media and how to use it to impact audiences;
  • Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work;
  • Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products;
  • Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a strong emphasis on written and spoken communications (additional language skills are welcome);
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Legally able to work in Indonesia.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International experience or prior work in a global organization
  • Experience in working with reporters or members of the media (and established media contacts)
  • Interest and experience in forestry, energy, or other natural resources-related issues in Indonesia
  • Visual skills, such as photography, graphic design, and Adobe Photoshop
  • Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials;

Duration

This position is expected to start immediately for an initial contract period up to 1 (one) year with possibility of extension subject to performance evaluation, budget availability, and project need.

Terms of Payment

Daily-rate based consultant with maximum of 216 (two hundred and sixteen) for the whole contract period or 18 (eighteen) working days per month on average.

Deliverables

  1. Effective work in producing and implementing robust communications and engagement strategy that lead to increase of awareness, knowledge and behavior. (40%)
  • Produce regular content engagement metrics and submit it in a timely manner to measure the effectiveness of the produced contents against predefined goals and targets, and to identify significant audience growth.
  • Quality of contents are 100% produced according to WRI Indonesia standard and contain specific messages that are aligned with both national and regional goals
  • Maintain the content creation time and publishing frequency according to the predefined plan.
  • Produce comprehensive event report that consists of achievement and lesson learned.
  • Consistent involvement in Communications Team institutional activities
  1. 100% assignment delivery for high quality communications materials (brochure, phamplets, annual reports, newsletters, social media posts, etc) as well as news media publications (30%)
  2. Effective relationship with various key stakeholders (partner NGOs and CSOs, media, government, etc) (20%)
  • Maintain strong and current database of existing and future potential stakeholders or key influencer with information on their interests and preferencesProvide necessary and relevant crucial information to the team for decision making
  • Timely action in responding to teams and stakeholders needs

Contract Arrangement

Individual consultancy contract (Part-time, limited term)
