MDF have recently carried out a project supported by SPC through EU which involves mapping of mangroves using GIS techniques, drones, and field transect survey. The project is completed and hereby in need of support from three online volunteers to help in editing, reviewing and finalizing the final report before submission.

The objective of mapping study was to develop appropriate and accurate mangrove cover and shoreline analysis maps, with the aim of enhancing ecosystem-based shoreline protection and food security in PNG. These objectives were achieved through a mixed approach of remote sensing techniques (drone surveys, satellite imagery and field data from GPS surveys and its analysis) and field surveys in a pristine and strong dynamical area of Barakau village coast, PNG. Ground data were collected in three major activities, chosen with respect to their socio-economic attributes, from drone surveys, field survey (GPS field survey and community survey) to satellite imagery (Landsat 8 and Landsat 5 surface reflectance data), mixed and extensive formation.

Based on this structural and functional information, the results and possible valuable future contributions of this study are discussed in the local (Barakau coastal area) and regional (other Pacific Island countries) contexts to the advancement of shoreline conservation efforts.

The task requires the compiling of two progress reports which will be submitted to the Donor Agency. MDF focal contact person will make available all documents through email in this collaboration and will communicate with the online volunteers through email, and any social media and video apps.

The report is compiled for a land use, mangrove mapping project carried out in Port Moresby village which is some kilometers out of the city. The volunteer will be awarded with certificates though UNV and reference from MDF PNG when applying to other institutions or job.

GIS and Remote sensing with communication and development skills for community development PHD candidate in a reputabel University are encouraged to apply
