You have:

  • University degree in business administration, human resources, or another related discipline
  • 10+ years working experience in supporting the design and implementation of compensation and benefits policies in medium to large multinational organizations
  • Ideally experience of both commercial and non-profit organizations
  • Hands-on experience in designing and managing online C&B processes, such as annual salary review and day-to-day processes
  • Understanding of best practices in compensation and benefits (e.g. job grading, salary scales design, international benefits, total rewards)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in English and in French to different groups of stakeholders, from senior management to staff, on all C&B-related matters
  • Good level of MS Office literacy
  • Strong analytical skills and logical mindset
  • Quick learner, resilient and able to work under pressure
  • Hands-on, results-driven yet able to work well within a team
  • Customer-focused, able to listen and integrate feedback

Reports to (role)

The Compensation and Benefits Manager will report to the Head of the Centre of Expertise Compensation & Benefits.

What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position

The Compensation & Benefits Centre of Expertise is leading a number of strategic initiatives that will enhance the ICRC’s capacity to attract, develop and retain the best possible workforce to access people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence and to deliver effective humanitarian services. The implementation of these projects involves significant changes in ICRC HR programs, policies and tools.

The first projects (Job Grading, Salary scales, Mobility policies) have been implemented in 2018 and ambitious Benefits projects (International Retirement Savings Plan and Central Medical Plan for local employees) are well underway, while all related elements need to be integrated into our new HR Information system (Success Factors).

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Accountable for all Compensation and Benefits matters for one or two of the institution’s regions, including the annual review of salary scales and the execution of the annual salary review;
  • Be a trusted and pro-active partner and adviser to HR colleagues and management in the region(s);
  • Active collaboration with the rest of the team on the design, modeling, communication and implementation of C&B projects, including post-implementation monitoring and evolution;
  • Provide support in the application and evolution of compensation policies; provide a backup for the application of the policy for mobile and headquarters’ employees;
  • Active participation in C&B projects and activities as and when required.
