Communications Officer - HR Communications

The Communications and Outreach Department (CCO) is responsible for managing IFC’s communications and outreach strategy in support of the Corporation’s business priorities. The department has three integrated units that facilitate strategic engagement with both internal and external stakeholders: Corporate Communications, Regional Communications, and Global Industry and Thematic Communications.

IFC’s Human Resources (HR) Department provides strategic partnership to the business to develop and implement workforce strategies and meet organizational goals, including attracting, developing and deploying diverse and skilled talent.

• Client Services – offers strategic HR partnership, program implementation, support and solutions to staff and management globally; • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – supports the organization to build a diverse workforce, embrace equity, and foster an inclusive workplace; • Employment Framework and Recruitment – develops and supports HR strategy, policies/procedures, communications, and knowledge management; drives HR initiatives, such as staff engagement and Board reporting; and delivers recruitment solutions; • Talent and Incentives – designs best practice HR solutions in onboarding, mentoring, career management and mobility, performance/talent management, incentives and awards, and leadership development.

The Corporate Communications unit is seeking a Communications Officer to lead HR communications for IFC. Candidates for this role must have experience working in functions that support employee engagement, campaigns, branding, and marketing. They should have a record of strategic, innovative leadership of communication initiatives, sound political judgment, and teamwork, in the use of communications tools and approaches, especially in employee engagement and campaigns, as well as employer branding and recruitment marketing. Applicants must have a good understanding of IFC, its mission, values, goals, and operational context. The Communications Officer will report to the Head of Internal Engagement (Principal Communications Officer), Corporate Communications and will work as a strategic advisor to the HR Director.

Duties and responsibilities:

Strategic communications: • Serve as HR’s communications lead; in collaboration with HR management, design, develop, and implement a best-in-class communications strategy for HR in support of the department’s key initiatives and programs, helping to position IFC as an employer of choice among current staff and potential candidates. • Work as a strategic advisor to the HR Director on employee and stakeholder engagement, leadership communication, positioning opportunities, and issue and risk management. Facilitate engagement and broad-based support of the IFC Management Team’s communications on key HR decisions and initiatives. • Rollout strategic decisions made by the IFC Management Team, related to HR Programs and Engagement, defining the best communication strategy and channels. • Craft compelling narratives, create clear messaging, and deliver a broad range of communications materials (presentations, briefs, talking points, broadcast messages, FAQs, feature stories, thought-leadership pieces, etc.) in support of key HR initiatives. Ensure coordination and alignment of messaging between different initiatives. • In partnership with internal engagement and technology colleagues, leverage cutting-edge tools for engaging with staff, creating an ongoing feedback loop to HR and management. • Work closely with IFC’s digital communications team and relevant HR colleagues to develop social media and web strategy, presence, content and campaigns around recruitment marketing, DEI, etc. to strengthen and promote the employer brand. • Provide strategic advice and content to support IFC’s recruitment outreach, events and marketing, including branding, presentations, brochures, and talking points. • Coordinate with relevant CCO and HR colleagues to position IFC as an employer of choice and to strengthen IFC’s Employee Value Proposition (EVP), both internally and externally. Maintain close linkages with the Corporate Support Vice Presidency to ensure that evolving priorities are effectively addressed.

Issue and risk management:

• Proactively manage sensitive and complex issues requiring diplomatic, multi-faceted communications and stakeholder engagement support. • Adapt messages to different audiences, both internally and externally, considering geographical location and business needs. • Develop and implement positioning and risk mitigation strategies, as needed.

Stakeholder engagement and partnerships:

• Coordinate communications plans with WBG HR communications team and differentiate messaging where appropriate. • Develop strong professional relationships with key external and internal constituencies, including the Staff Association, Employee Resource Groups, academia, think tanks, and other influencers • Partner closely with the internal engagement team to coordinate internal and external campaigns related to HR topics. • Solicit external perspectives on best practices through strategies for structured listening and engagement. • Supervise CCO and HR team members, consultants and vendors as assigned to ensure high quality and timely delivery.

Selection Criteria

• Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public affairs, or other related fields with a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility. Previous experience with HR communications in a large, complex organization would be an asset. • Demonstrated excellence in communication and stakeholder engagement with a proven track record of designing, implementing, and driving innovative communications strategies for internal and external audiences; strong knowledge of human resources management is needed. • Excellent oral and written communications and presentation skills in English. • Experience in working on cross-functional teams and managing different stakeholders and influencing at all levels. • Passion for IFC’s mission and values, and a clear understanding of the role of HR and communications in achieving corporate goals. • Ability to drive results and work effectively in a high pressure rapidly changing and fast-paced environment with a number of parallel initiatives requiring attention. • Strong quality control orientation and attention to detail. • Ability to collaborate within teams and across boundaries.
