UNICEF in the State of Palestine works to uphold the rights of children to access services and protection, from early childhood through to adolescence. Our objective is to ensure that every child in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, irrespective of background or circumstance, has an equal chance to fulfil their potential.

In the last three years, UNICEF in the State of Palestine has achieved a very high reach and engagement through its social media platforms. UNICEF-SoP would like to build on this and continue engaging with our audience, who are not only seek information but are willing to have important conversations on crucial issues concerning children’s wellbeing and rights. This position will support UNIEF-SoP’s strategic focus to ensure greater presence, understanding, participation and meaningful engagement with our online audiences through the development of high-quality content, research, community moderation and knowledge management.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Head of Section or his/her designated mandated representative(s), and in close collaboration with all programme sections, the UN Volunteer Communications Officer will undertake the following tasks:

• Produce high-quality communication documents in Arabic, and English. • Research, draft and edit communication materials (articles, press releases, human interest stories, fact sheets and others) for both traditional and modern media for advocacy, social mobilization and resource mobilization activities. • Research UNICEF projects, activities, advocacy and communication priorities, and successes to develop a plan to regularly create high-quality written communication products and publications • Draft original advocacy and communication products (web articles, blogs, press releases, policy briefs, human interest stories) as required. • Liaise with relevant colleagues at the country office as required, to verify information, conduct interviews, fact-check stories and data and obtain clearances for their respective content. • Collate relevant multimedia (videos, photos and graphics) from UNICEF’s repositories to use with communication and advocacy products. • Edit and proofread content in English, and Arabic • Support the development and reinforcement of already existing web tools in order to enhance the visibility of UNICEF and its partners. • Contribute to start and scale-up of an interactive communication model that gives young people a voice; • Ensure systematic information updates and propose content for social media platforms (photos, videos, posts and articles); • Support the Communication team in its day-to-day activities, including but not limited to, contributing to outreach through organizing events and setting up activities (meetings and task forces).

UNICEF has a zero-tolerance policy on sexual exploitation and abuse, and on any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.

Journalism, Creative Writing, Communication or relevant discipline

The duty station for the assignment will be Gaza Strip. As is the case for UN staff and partners, the volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of ILS 4,700 is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents), as well as final repatriation (if applicable) and resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. Settling-In-Grant will be provided in the event duty station is not within commuting distance from the place of recruitment.
