Key Responsibilities:

Communications & Media

- Working closely with the Development Officer, design and drive an annual communications plan to implement the IRC’s local vision around supporter community engagement, education, fundraising/resource development, and advocacy. - Manage the timely production and distribution of strategic communications materials, including monthly newsletters, social media posts, website updates, press releases, advocacy alerts, community reports (quarterly & annual) and other digital and print materials that improve visibility to stakeholders, key decision-makers and other interested parties and meet organizational needs. - Work cross-departmentally to build a culture of storytelling, curating staff, program and client stories and crafting compelling, well-designed content to support the fundraising, marketing, programmatic and advocacy goals of the organization following the Ethical Storytelling Framework. - Support program activities as a focal point and lead on communications and marketing efforts. - Serve as media relations focal point, facilitating proactive and reactive media engagement, and working to prepare IRC spokespersons and participating clients ahead of media opportunities. - Identify and cultivate a comprehensive media contact list, proactively pitch stories to local media contacts and develop media partners to showcase the work of the IRC in Salt Lake City. - Serve as liaison and point of contact between the IRC’s HQ Communications team and the Salt Lake City office, including participating in monthly CoP calls, responding to HQ media requests as appropriate, and identifying and preparing clients and staff for interviews with the media. - Maintain communication and media policies in consultation with relevant focal points at HQ and in close consultation with local management. Ensure that all staff are aware of these policies and procedures.

Community Relations, Engagement & Events

- Oversee Speaker’s Bureau efforts and initiatives, including staff engagement in the bureau and external speaker requests, to recruit and education potential donors, volunteers and other supporters. - Track all supporter community engagement efforts via centralized tracking mechanisms to document efforts over time. - Represent IRC at meetings, speaking engagements, coalition events, etc. Conduct outreach and networking activities to educate and cultivate potential donors, volunteers, partners, and advocates. - Oversee and execute on digital fundraising campaigns and strategies, including DIY community fundraisers, annual appeal content and message, working closely with the Development Officer, development team and program staff. - Organize, plan, and execute in the coordination of IRC-organized fundraisers, events, and community engagements, working closely with the Development Officer, development team and program staff. - Liaise with and supervise volunteers and contract workers supporting communications, graphic design, photography, videography, etc. - Support program activities as a focal point and lead on communications and marketing efforts. - Manage the general email account for the Salt Lake City office.

Development

- Participate as a member of the IRC in Salt Lake City’s Speakers Bureau, including attending community tabling and speaking events. - Aid cross-team efforts like volunteer and intern events, trainings, and information sessions as needed. - Participate in development team meetings, weekly staff meetings, and national skills building trainings, calls, and communities of practice. - Support general office logistics, such as office support and front desk, as applicable and feasible. - Maintain professionalism, customer service, and IRC Way ideals when working with the community. - Other reasonable tasks and projects as assigned.

Key working relationships****:

Position Report to: Development Officer

Position directly supervises: Communications Intern (or variations of), community volunteers, contracted vendors (photographers, graphic designers, etc.)

Indirect Reporting: Executive Director, senior leadership team, program managers

Other internal and/or external contacts: Development team, program staff, people served by the IRC, HQ focal points, and community supporters.

Job Requirements:

Education OR Work Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college preferred in related fields, and/or

2 years’ experience in professional communications, marketing, community engagement and/or equivalent experience.

Language Skills: Fluent in English, both spoken and written. Other language skills a plus.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies****:

- Experience working with media, communications/outreach, event planning and/or community organizing. - Strong public speaking and presentation skills. - Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time. - Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) beyond a basic level. - Strong writing and editing skills with an excellent attention to detail. - Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required; proficiency in graphic design preferred. - Experience using supporter communications platforms, such as Salesforce. - Commitment to actioning Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts and strategies. - Strong ability to work independently with minimal direction. - Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team member in a diverse, cross-cultural environment. - Strong interest in international and refugee issues or strong interest to learn. - Lived experience of the communities served a plus.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
