Contract
This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.
The UNV will work in close collaboration with the UNOCHA team in Nigeria to ensure an efficient flow of information, coordination, advocacy, and reporting. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the National Humanitarian Affairs Officer, Reporting, and the overall supervision of the Head of the Public Information Unit, the UNV will ensure effective communications and administrative support to the unit while maintaining full confidentiality in all aspects of the assignment, maintenance of procedures, management of information flow, follow up on deadlines and commitments made.
Under the direct supervision of the National Humanitarian Affairs Officer, Reporting, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Provides logistical and administrative support for field and media missions, events, and outreach for the Humanitarian Response Plan, media briefings, the Humanitarian Communications Working Group and other advocacy priorities, as required. • Assists in the extraction, research and validation of data and facts - including follow-up with field units, relevant sectors, and others, as required. • Maintains and updates a database of the contacts in the media, Government, private sector, donors, civil society, and other stakeholders. • Maintains public information databases (SharePoint), photo library and mailing lists. • Establishes and maintains partnerships with youth networks to amplify advocacy. • Prepares drafts of advocacy highlights, information digests, and social media content. • Provides other support to the Public Information Unit, as required.

North-east Nigeria is a unique (humanitarian) operation. It provides an interesting and enriching environment, but also requires a mature level of cultural awareness, as well as stamina and commitment. Therefore, flexibility and the ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and potentially hazardous conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort, are essential.
