Job Description

In response to the “refugee crisis” in Greece, the IRC Hellas started operations in Greece in June 2015 and currently runs operations in Athens and Mytilene,. IRC is implementing programs in the sectors of Mental Health, Child Protection, Livelihoods, and Gender-Based Violence. IRC had been running the Information Provision web and Facebook page, Refugee.Info. A product of Signpost, Refugee.Info is a unique multi-channel platform with two-way communication as a core activity. It reached more than 96,000 unique users in Greece in the past 12 months, and its Greece-focused Facebook page is followed by more than 115,000 people.

Signpost

Signpost is an innovative digital initiative providing the humanitarian community with a platform to reach refugees, asylum seekers, and crisis-affected communities around the world with accessible information. Signpost is a useful information resource for people in need fosters a more in-depth community, more trust, and, most importantly, more utility for its users.

Job Overview:

Develop and implement a communication strategy that leverages website and social media outreach and builds authority and increases awareness of RI services to the RI audience. Maintain and update the RI website and FB page and make sure that the content is up-to-date and valid but also relevant, comprehensible, and useful to RI users. Coordinate the editorial process, including translations within the team. Create engaging multimedia content and share it online but also with other stakeholders and actors. Develop, support, and evaluate the performance of social media campaigns. Liaise with external legal support to validate content on legal procedures.

Major Responsibilities - Content:

● Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the content and keep up-to-date with relevant developments.

● Publish relevant and appropriate content on the RI website and Facebook page. Ensure content is accurate, complete, easy to understand, and engaging.

● Use the Contentful CMS, Transifex translation-management software, and other tools to prepare content for publication.

● Coordinate, update, and handle the RI style guide, ensuring that RI produces high-quality and error-free content.

Major Responsibilities – Communication:

● Develop and implement a communication strategy that includes online and offline activities that will build authority, and awareness and increase the visibility of the program.

● Conduct a detailed stand keyholder analysis for the Greece media landscape, to identify potential RI Greece partners among Greek media organizations and/or universities that could support RI Greece editorial operations.

● Maintain and manage the day-to-day handling of the Facebook and RI website

● Oversee, plan and deliver content across the Website and Facebook using scheduling tools.

● Create engaging multimedia content. Plan and manage the design, content, and production of all materials.

● Manage a budget for social media activities.

● Monitor, track, analyze and report on performance on social media platforms and websites using tools such as Google Analytics and Facebook insights

● Research and evaluate the latest trends and techniques to find new and better ways of measuring social media activity. Recommend improvements to increase performance.

● Participate in meetings and working groups, represent the RI program, and respond to communication-related issues promptly.

● Contribute to monthly reporting.

Staff Support

● Support moderators with publishing posts on Facebook and the website

● Support Social Media Moderators Officer with responding to Facebook messages and other tasks including training. Educate other staff on the use of social media.

● Work with the Developer’s team to resolve technical issues across platforms.

Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

• Approximately four to five years of meaningful experience in editing, sub-editing, copy-editing

• Experience working with a humanitarian organization

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

• Experience with navigating online systems to complete work

• Knowledge of social media strategies

• Knowledge of online content best practices

• Knowledge and experience in managing websites and social media platforms

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Media, Public information, or another relevant field

Language Skills:

• Advanced English language skills, oral and written

Preferred experience & skills:

• Experience in content editing

• Strong writing and proofreading skills

• Passion for writing

• Representation and liaising skills

• Strong interpersonal and time-management skills; shown ability to prioritize and deliver on time

• Great attention to detail

• Strong analytic problem-solving skills

• Ability to work both independently and in a multifaceted, cross-functional team

• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
