Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity, and hope to millions uprooted and struggling to endure.

Context of the Assignment

The IRC is conducting research on access to the asylum procedure in Italy. Even though, according to current legislation in Italy, access to the asylum procedure should be guaranteed to all aspiring asylum seekers in a timely manner, the exercise of the right to asylum is hindered if not actually prevented-in numerous cities. This work seems to arise from the need to shed light on the critical nature of this situation and to propose solutions to the problems encountered in the various territories. The report aims to address the issue of barriers to access to asylum in Italy through the direct experience of multiple civil society realities operating in various Italian territories, through the analysis of reports and additional publicly available sources, as well as court decisions upholding the right of access to the asylum procedure.
