This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) is mandated by Security Council Resolution 2626 (2022) which was extended under Resolution 2678 (2023).

This mandate tasks UNAMA with the promotion and support of humanitarian assistance in line with humanitarian principles, human rights, equality for women and girls, inclusive governance, resilience, and economic stability, and using our good offices for principled and constructive engagement with all national, regional and global stakeholders in the pursuit of Afghanistan’s peace and stability.

UNAMA reaffirms its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and national unity of Afghanistan, as well as its continued support for the people of Afghanistan, within the framework of the UN Charter and other international laws and instruments.

UNAMA's vision is for a stable and prosperous Afghanistan that lives at peace with itself and its neighbours, where the rights of all the people of Afghanistan are upheld, without discrimination.

Under the direct supervision of an international Political Affairs Officer in the Political Affairs Section, the National UN Volunteer will:

•Collect, select and analyze information from wide variety of diverse sources, including specialised publications, traditional and social media, with special attention to the representation of all segments of society including vulnerable categories like minorities and women; •Support the monitoring of national, provincial and district level political and economic developments and keep abreast of latest trends and developments in the area of assignment in accordance with the priorities established by the mission; •Maintain up to date knowledge of events relating to political and economic issues in general, and in particular areas of responsibility; •Support the development and maintaining of databases and other information management systems as requested; •Support the reporting and analysis of pertinent developments, and contribute factual and analytical inputs to Mission reports; •Translate documents from English into Pashto/Dari and vice-versa whenever necessary; •Provide administrative and logistical support to officers in the Political Affairs Service; including arrangements for meetings, preparing documents etc.
