This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

This post is in UNMISS Aviation Section and located in Juba/Bor. He/She will be working with other Air Operations Assistants in TCU dealing with day to day processing/verification of crew & aircraft documents as well as other preparation of reports. The prospective candidate will report to the Chief Technical Compliance Unit, Juba/ Chief Air Region Bor.

Under the direct supervision of Chief, Technical Compliance Unit/Aviation Section (Juba) or Chief Air Region Bor/Aviation Section(Bor), the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Receive and verify aircrews licenses, validity of medical certificates, required flying hours, currencies and proficiencies, mandatory trainings, etc. for verification and acceptance. • Monitor crew rotations, attendance/ hours flown, flight and duty time limitations. • Identify any discrepancies / omissions in the crews’ paperwork and inform the Chief TCU for immediate action. • Saving crews paperwork in the SharePoint and Aviation eDatabases. • Closely monitor the in-coming crews to ensure that they are not included on UNHQ “Persona Non Grata” list. • Assists Site Managers requesting entry visas to South Sudan, IDs, vehicle passes to UN compounds, with procedural explanations in relation to Aviation Section policies and procedures as required. • Prepare Movement of Personnel (MOPs) requests of Air Carriers’ workers for endorsement. • Receive from Air Carriers hard copies of Aircraft Use Reports (AUR’s) and ensure that documents (fuel slips, passenger & cargo manifest and accomplished Air Tasking Orders (ATO) are attached as indicated on the AURs. • Process AURs and ensure all documentation is in accordance with the scheduled flights to be conducted and in-line with the Mission requirements. • Assist in preparation of monthly Air Transport Section (ATS) reports and other documents as required in a timely manner. • Receive invoices, receipts and other documents from Air Carriers and Aviation Military Unit, check that all required documents are submitted and forward to the TCU Budget/Accounting Unit. • Generate aircraft utilization statistics as required. • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief of Technical Compliance Unit(Juba) or Chief Air Region Bor (Bor).

Aviation industry related to air transport operations, air traffic control or flight dispatch operations.

General knowledge of Aviation international regulations, ICAO standards and recommended practices is desirable.

Basic certificate using computer software’s and databases.

Experience in the use of VHF and HF radio equipment is desirable.

Driving license for manual/shift stick vehicles is mandatory.

Desirable to have experience in: • Flight Crew, Cabin Crew or Flight and Ground Engineers • Air Traffic Control in Civilian or Military • ICAO Government Inspector for Airworthiness, Flight Ops or Licensing • Any basic or advance computer software

Living conditions vary between UNMISS duty stations. Each duty station where UNMISS has a field presence has basic residential camp facilities, which includes running water and electricity. Candidates should be aware that accommodation may be austere with the possibility of water shortages and power blackouts. On arrival in Juba accommodation will be on a share basis. Ablutions will also be shared. As the accommodation situation improves single unit accommodation, with an attached ablution, should become available in all locations. Hard wall accommodation is available in Juba.

All UNMISS duty stations apart from Entebbe, Uganda are considered non - family duty stations. The security level of UNMISS duty stations is classified by the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) who will brief on arrival. A number of locations in South Sudan are prone to conflict.

Primary health care services (preventive and curative) are provided in 11 United Nations Owned Equipment (UNOE) Level-I clinics, 21 Contingent Owned Equipment (COE) Level-I clinics, 4 COE Level-II medical facilities within the mission area and the establishment of contractual agreements for Level-III and Level-IIII care outside the mission area. The 4 Level-II facilities available in Juba, Bor, Malakal and Wau, run by the Troop Contributing Countries (TCC), take referrals from the Level-I clinics and provide hospital-based care.

The climate is tropical with a rainy season in many areas, which should normally span from around April to October. Ability to live and work in difficult and harsh conditions is essential.
