Background of the project

Scope of work

- IRC Dallas is recruiting an instructional designer with ESL teaching experience to design and develop a 40-hour asynchronous ESL course. The course content will be focused on topics relevant to English proficiency development at the A1-A2 CEFR level. - The “Consultant” will: - Develop course scope and sequence, outlines with learning objectives and anchor texts/resources for each module. - Write course script, develop course assets (downloadable, graphics, videos, etc.), and write knowledge checks/assessments. - Solicit feedback and integrate from stakeholders at key junctures in content development. - Research and propose course platform and development applications/software based aligned to IRC goals, budget, staffing, and sustainability considerations. - Prepare course storyboard, build course prototype and all course modules. - Solicit and respond to user feedback on content and technical issues. - The “Consultant” will work under the direction of the Adult Education Supervisor and in close collaboration with the Education and Learning Manager and Curriculum Specialist and will be responsible for the course's content development. - The “Consultant” Instructional Designer will be expected to complete a 40-hour asynchronous course within the contract period.

Deliverables:

- The “Consultant” will work with E&L Manager and Adult Education Supervisor to evaluate and choose the best Learning Management System to use for the Dallas ELI Asynchronous Course project. - The “Consultant” will survey potential hosting service providers to find the most competitive hosting rate for the LMS - The “Consultant” will work with E&L Manager and Adult Education Supervisor and identify and select the most advantageous e-learning tools, authoring tools, and other A/V products needed to create the course. - The “Consultant” will work with the E&L Manager and Adult Education Supervisor to build a curricular skeleton for this 40-hour course (Approximately 8 weeks’ worth of content) to detail the components of each module including: - Lesson Learning Objectives - Summative Assessment Techniques - Grammatical Components - Language Mechanics - Lesson Learning Outcomes - Four Skills Development Activities - Multimedia and Educational Tools to be used to deliver critical content - LMS Module Layout - Other components as needed - The “Consultant” will work independently to develop 8-10 modules to include, for which each module will/may include: - Voice over PPT lectures - Talking Head lectures - Assessments - Gamified activities - Supplemental worksheets, activities, and downloadable - Other materials or content as needed - The “Consultant” should complete the content for 1 module every 2 weeks which would include the construction of the module on the LMS as well as all testing required. - The “Consultant” will meet bi-weekly with the Education and Learning Manager and the Adult Education Supervisor to detail progress on the ESL Course. - The “Consultant” may also be required to engage in meetings with other ELI staff at the discretion of the Education and Learning Manager.

Qualifications

Requirements:

- 3 to 5 years of experience developing innovative online learning courses and multimedia training products. - Knowledge of instructional design methods such as ADDIE, Gagne, and Constructive Alignment. - In-depth knowledge and experience with eLearning and multimedia platforms (such as Captivate, Articulate, Premiere, Camtasia, Final Cut, etc.) - 1-3 years of experience teaching ESL to adults from culturally diverse backgrounds using culturally responsive strategies; experience working with refugees or other forcibly displaced populations preferred; - Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or TESOL certificate preferred - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional presentation skills; - Strong attention to detail; excellent editing and proofreading skills - Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task and complete work in a fast-paced environment - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Proficient in general office software programs, e.g., Microsoft Office suite
