Job Description

Job Overview/Summary: The Adult Education Supervisor implements education programming for adults served by the IRC in Boise. This person oversees adult education programming including job readiness, financial literacy, wellness, career development, and other classes. This role also provides support to the Idaho Community Advisor Network (I-CAN) team’s Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) coordination staff in scheduling parenting and driver’s education classes for refugees in their first three years in Idaho. The supervisor oversees volunteer onboarding and supervision to meet adult education needs, including volunteer instructors, interpreters, and adult education interns.

Major Responsibilities:

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT

· With input from the Economic Empowerment Manager, and program staff, establish and implement annual and long-term goals and objectives to successfully achieve outcomes related to privately funded programs in the Economic Empowerment Department

· Develop funding proposals for the department’s programs to ensure the continuous delivery of services

· Sustain and grow partnerships with the local education and other strategic partners to maximize their coordination, cooperation, and support.

· Represent Economic Empowerment in the community and to potential funders, serving as a resource to those seeking information about adult education program activities.

· In coordination with the Finance Manager, develop and monitor program and grant budgets

· Ensure oversight and monitoring of case files for proper file documentation.

· Supervise, coach, and support the development of education team members in accordance with IRC’s People Manager Standards.

· Provide career development and learning opportunities to staff to build the service delivery leadership strengths of all within the department.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SERVICE DELIVERY

· Oversee adult education classes, including coordination of class schedules, enrollment and registration, pre- and post-testing, volunteer training and supervision, curriculum development and instructional quality.

· Coordinate with economic empowerment team to implement effective classes including quality of content and instruction, refugee attendance, and appropriate language interpretation.

· Collaborate with program staff on adult education curriculum development and instruction delivery.

· Identify and engage with relevant community partners and universities to support IRC’s education and learning programs.

- Improve Adult Education programs monitoring and evaluation tools and systems to track student and program progress. - Assist with preparation of relevant funder reports related to adult education and training programs offered by IRC

VOLUNTEER SUPERVISION

- Participate in IRC network-wide initiatives to understand and share best-practices relating to adult education, cultural orientation and continuing education/job training.

· Recruit, train, orient, monitor, and evaluate volunteer performance and ensure program objectives are met.

- Orient, train and supervise volunteers and interns to support education and learning programs for youth and adults, in coordination with youth program staff member - Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to develop and maintain relationships with university and community partners for volunteers and interns

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in education, social work or a relevant field highly desired.

Work Experience:

· Minimum of two years teaching experience (with adults) required, preferably with English language learners

· Experience working with adult learners from a variety of cultural and linguistic groups highly desired

· Experience with refugee and/or immigrant populations highly preferred

· Experience designing student-centered, thematic-based curriculum and developing monitoring and evaluation systems highly desired

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

· Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work successfully in cross-cultural environment

· Highly organized, responsible and flexible; ability to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment and maintain composure under pressure

· Must be comfortable interacting with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to use the internet and other resources for research and problem-solving purposes

· Willingness to work some evenings and/or weekends on a regular basis

Language Skills: Ability to read, write and speak English fluently is required. Fluency in one of the languages of populations served is highly desired (Arabic, Persian, Pashto, French, Kiswahili, Haitian Creole, Spanish)

Certificates or Licenses: Teaching and/or TESOL/ESL certification highly desired.

Working Environment: Standard office work environment. Some field work required (10% of time), including outreach and communication with local schools, networking opportunities and community-based organizations.
