Youth Program Specialist

Job Overview:

IRC Boise’s Youth Program Specialist provides support for school-age refugee youth and their families in helping refugee youth access extra-curricular activities. The Youth Program Specialist will coordinate specific programming and serve as a liaison between refugee families, schools, and community partners. This will include curriculum development, direct instruction, advocating for families in academic settings, supervision of volunteers and interns, and monitoring and evaluation of program outcomes. Under the supervision of the Youth Services Supervisor, the Youth Program Specialist is responsible for offering initial core services to youth, program implementation, and evaluation of said programs. This position ensures that goals and program objectives are accomplished in tandem with IRC staff, refugee parents, refugee youth, community partners, and volunteers.

Major Responsibilities:

- Develop culturally-appropriate and level-appropriate curriculum to engage students in learning and enrichment in various settings, including after school programs, summer programs, and workshops. - Assist with data collection and tracking to meet funder requirements and for internal program monitoring and evaluation. - Supervise and support volunteers and interns assisting with youth programming, including after-school programs, summer school programs, and workshops. - Conduct Service Plans for newly arrived families, laying out goals and expectations for each child, plus additional 30-day and 90-day follow-up meetings. - Identify and enroll refugee students into IRC Youth Program services; conduct regular follow-up with students and families to ensure participants are on track toward service plan goals. - Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the IRC team. - Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency. - Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

- Associates Degree or equivalent preferred; or equivalent work experience, preferably in a non-profit or social services agency environment. - Excellent English written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills. - Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships. - Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. - Attention to detail and accuracy in work product. - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the Internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes. - Ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment. - Previous multi-cultural experience and proven ability to communicate well with people from diverse backgrounds strongly preferred. - Ability to lift 35+ lbs. safely. - Valid driver's license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment:

- A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

- May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

IRC Background: Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In the U.S., IRC provides assistance to refugees resettling here through 27 offices operating in 16 states. IRC resettles approximately 11,000 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship. The IRC in Boise opened it office in 2005, and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as numerous other programs to educate and empower refugees.
