Support students in PreK – 12th grade and their families, facilitating communication and program participation.
You have:
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience including youth development, college/career advising, teaching, tutoring, international studies, social work, case management, or mentoring.
- 2 to 3 years’ relevant work experience required.
- Professional proficiency in English required; professional proficiency in Dari and Pashto strongly preferred.
- Experience working with refugee or immigrants is preferred.
- Experience working with multi-lingual students or English Language Learners; TESOL certificate or educational credentials a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong intercultural communication skills.
- Proficiency with online platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to be First Aid/CPR certified upon hire.
- Driver’s license and access to an insured personal vehicle.
Major Responsibilities
Program Implementation
• Support students in PreK – 12th grade and their parents/guardians, tracking their progress, and facilitating communication with teachers and administrators.
• Monitor grades, schedules, attendance.
• Act as a family advocate, maintaining regular communication with parents/guardians and school representatives.
• Coordinate participation in summer school for credit recovery.
• Work closely with teachers, and provide support during classes, study periods, and after school.
• Plan and lead activities and lessons on topics like English literacy, high school completion, and post-secondary planning.
• Create safe and supportive environments using a trauma-informed approach.
• Supervise volunteers and interns assisting with youth programming.
Outreach and Registration to Families
• Lead outreach, registration, and data management for assigned programs. Use appropriate language resources to communicate with families, support program participation.
• Maintain accurate data for external reporting purposes.
Resource Development
• Stay informed about English language and graduation requirements.
• Make referrals and connect youth and families to additional programs and services as needed.
Partnerships:
• Organize and lead field trips, coordinating with various partners.
• Provide translation and interpretation support for Dari and Pashto materials and families.
Systems Navigation and Education Assistance:
• Assist newcomer Afghan families with navigating systems and education-related needs.
Transportation:
• Occasionally drives personal, IRC, or school vehicle to transport participants to events.
Data Tracking:
• Develop and train team members in data gathering and client management protocols.
• Coordinate and track student and family interventions and supports.
General Responsibilities:
• Be an active member of the IRC office, supporting onboarding and training.
• Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Working Environment:
• Primarily working in middle and high schools in the Charlottesville and Albemarle area.
• Some remote and office-based work is required.
• Evening or weekend activities as needed.
• Access to reliable high-speed internet for remote working purposes and transportation
Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
