to provide professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process to support the integration of engagement development and participation in programmes/projects within the Country Programme. The Youth engagement officer is responsible for preparing, executing, managing and implementing a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to support the development and formulation of the engagement development and participation programmes/projects within the Country Programme.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Chief Advocacy & Communication, P4, the Youth engagement officer is responsible of the following tasks.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Support to programme development and planning
  2. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results
  3. Technical and operational support to programme implementation
  4. Networking and partnership building
  5. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

The support, research and technical analysis provided by the incumbent strengthens the advocacy, planning and formulation of youth development and participation programmes. The achievement of concrete and sustainable results from these programmes contribute to achievement of UNICEF goals in the country to promote the full and active participation of youths in determining their essential needs, promoting their rights to a safe environment and protecting their rights to survival, development and well-being in society. This in turn contributes to maintaining/enhancing the credibility and ability of UNICEF to provide programme services for mothers and children that promotes greater social equality and inclusion in the country.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A first University Degree in one of the following fields is required: anthropology, psychology, sociology, education, or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in social development planning and management in youth development related areas is required.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in French is required. Very good knowledge in English and another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered an asset.
