Job Description

Background: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their lives. The IRC works with people forced to flee from war, conflict, and disaster and the host communities that support them, as well as those who remain within their homes and communities. We began work in Ethiopia in 2000 and are currently implementing emergency and development programs in health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response. The IRC has a focus on narrowing the gender gap in humanitarian aid and ensuring that we contribute to gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in both our programs and operations by working to establish a context where our clients (including those from ethnic minority groups) enjoy the same rights and opportunities as well as equal access to services. We are determined to protect our clients and staff from safeguarding violations through prevention and, where misconduct is alleged, to address it without fear or favor Job Overview: The position holder handles implementing community-based child protection program in Deder Town. The position holder will lead all aspects of the prevention and response activities of the program that include working with the community, psychosocial support activities and case management

Duties and Responsibilities Summary Statement of Responsibilities: Assist the team in the assessment of the living conditions of women and children in the IDP/Returnee community centers and participate in the development of an appropriate strategy in addressing their needs. Facilitate the involvement of children and women the community (leaders and parents) in women and girls wellness center and document the progress made. Support community leaders and government sector focal persons in the monitoring, verification, and documentation of GBV cases. Follow-up the preparation and implementation of case action plan and conduct home to home visit including outreach programs. Carry out data Entry into the GBVIMS database. Support the community wellbeing initiative officers in facilitating and coordinating appropriate care arrangement, and suitable alternative care system with close supervision and attention to the individual concerns of women and girls Organize and facilitate GBV awareness session. Organize and lead psychosocial support activities at women and girls’ safe space (WGSS) Work closely with the CWI Officer in the celebration of international events days and other awareness-raising sessions. Participate with partners, and the team leaders in conducting the Best Interest Assessment to ensure the needs of women and girls are addressed. Adhere and fully abide by the GBV code of conduct. Shall take any additional responsibilities as requested by supervisors. Key Working Relationships: The position holder will directly report to the WPE Officer and WPE/CP Sr officer based in Harar with additional oversight from the WPE/CP manager based in Adama.

Safeguarding Responsibilities: - Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC [team/ Harar office] Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies. Controlling the entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and vehicles according to protocols

Qualifications

Requirements Educational Requirements: Apply basic to intermediate level knowledge of procedural and systems to perform the requirement of the job skills and knowledge typically acquired through a combination of job-related training, some on-job experience and some formal education. 2 years of relevant work experience for diploma holders University fresh graduate. Educational Requirements: BA/Diploma graduate in Social Studies

Preferred experience & skills: 2 years of relevant work experience for Diploma holder and 0-year experience for BA holder Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as, an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time Strong analytic problem-solving skills Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.

Language Skills: English, language speaking and writing capability are mandatory plus local Language is advantageous (Fluent spoken and written Afan Oromo)
