You have:
- Experience in water/irrigation engineering or concrete works; experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including drafting and reporting skills.
- Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including community members and authorities at different levels.
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications and database management.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum supervision and tight deadlines.
- Sound security awareness necessary for working in local communities.
- Valid national driver's license is desirable.
- Interest in Green and Inclusive Development, and volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development.
Contract
This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.
The UNDP “Support to host Communities in the WASH Sector” Project is seeking to hire a National UN Volunteer Specialist who will be responsible for assisting the North Lebanon Project Engineer to undertake site supervision and monitoring of works and workers on field. S/he will also be responsible to assist in coordination with the local actors, Water Establishment site staff and other actors working in the region.
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Project Engineer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the National UN Volunteer Specialist will undertake the following tasks: • Assist in the monitoring and implementation of civil works on site and report back daily to the Project Engineer • Assist in coordinating the work on site and in reporting activities • Support in the identification of beneficiaries and new sites upon the request of the Project Engineer • Assist in the coordination of tasks with other partners and national counterparts • Supervise and follow up on daily labour tasks and security measures on site • Keep records of daily labour attendance on the site and prepare reports for labour and working days • Prepare bi-weekly reports of the work progress • Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary or as assigned by the Project Engineer.

water/ irrigation or concrete works, or other relevant programmes; experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Desirable: valid national driver’s license; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in Green and Inclusive Development, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in North Lebanon and Akkar Governorates. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
