The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is the only international intergovernmental agency with a specific mandate for migration and is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing technical expertise to governments, migrants and host communities through a wide range of sustainable solutions, contributing to support populations affected by forced migration and improve living conditions of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and the Programme Manager (WASH), the direct supervision of the National Project Officer (WASH) and in close coordination with the Head of Sub Office and other technical programme specialists, the incumbent will be responsible for carrying out Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program functions in accordance with IOM’s regulations, rules and procedures.
This Unted Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment is part of IOM’s project “Sustainable Recovery of the Kryvyi Rih Water Supply System following the Destruction of the Kakhovka Dam” Key project stakeholders include: Kryvbas Vodokanal (KBVK), Kryvyi Rih City Council the WASH cluster, other WASH actors such as UNICEF, other relevant coordination bodies and all relevant Ukrainian government bodies. IOM has contracted an engineering consultancy firm to support project delivery with the aim of supporting the restoration and sustainability of water supply services in Kryvyi Rih through:
Result 1.1: Improved efficiency of water treatment processes Result 1.2: Reduced energy consumption of the water pumping stations Result 1.3: Enhanced performance of the water distribution system
- Stakeholder liaison & coordination:
• Build and maintain constructive relations with the Vodokanal and local Authorities. Serve as IOM’s in-field focal point, track requests, and follow up on actions • Plan and organize field visits and meetings by preparing agendas, confirming participant lists, arranging logistics and circulating clear minutes with decisions and action points.
Support to the Consultancy firm: • Arrange site access and accompany technical teams during surveys, measurements, and stakeholder interviews while ensuring basic Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) measures are respected. • During work, support basic site monitoring alongside IOM engineers by using checklists, keeping daily photo logs, and noting non-conformities or safety issues for escalation.
Data, documentation & reporting: • Maintain a field document hub on the designated SharePoint, including minutes, photo evidence, permits, and as-built documents received from contractors/KBVK); • Provide weekly field notes that summarize progress, risks, community concerns and contribute inputs to monthly reports and dashboards; • Update simple trackers for issues, risks, decisions, and support verification of progress for payment certificates and acceptance.
Community engagement & communications (Accountability to Affected Populations - AAP)^ • Act as a courteous point of contact for community representatives during visits; • Log feedback and complaints and channel them to responsible teams, while tracking their closure; • Inform the Communications team of noteworthy items and support photo, video, and story capture when requested;

Municipal utilities/WASH/infrastructure projects implementation in Ukraine
• Liaison and Coordination: Proven ability to coordinate with local authorities, municipal utilities, contractors, and communities, ensuring smooth communication and compliance with local regulations. • Field Operations and Mission Organization: Experience in planning, organizing, and conducting field visits or site assessments, including logistics, safety, and stakeholder engagement. • Document Handling and Reporting: Competence in preparing, organizing, and maintaining project documentation, including technical reports, permits, correspondence, and progress records. • Site Supervision and Monitoring: Basic construction/site supervision skills, including monitoring of work for quality, safety, and adherence to project specifications

As it is a national UN Volunteer's assignment, the UN volunteer shall organize his/her accommodation by themselves.
Entitlements of National UN Volunteer Specialist USD 1690
The contract lasts for the period indicated in the vacancy with the possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. This is a full-time contract.
Allowances: • Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) USD 1690 (equivalent in UAH) is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and normal cost of living expenses. This includes Well-Being Differentials for the period while the ICSC applies hardship classification to duty stations in Ukraine as “E”. • USD 400 entry lump sum, one-time payment.
Medical and life insurance: • Medical insurance: The UN Volunteer and eligible PFU dependents will receive UNV-provided medical insurance coverage. Coverage for UN Volunteers begins from the Commencement of Service and normally ceases one month after the last day of the UN Volunteer Contract date. • Life Insurance: UN Volunteers are covered by life insurance for the duration of the UN Volunteer assignment. If a UN Volunteer dies during the UN Volunteer assignment, the eligible designated beneficiaries will be entitled to receive a life insurance lump sum.
Leave entitlements: • Annual leave: UN Volunteers accrue an entitlement to 2.5 days of Annual Leave per completed month of the UN Volunteer assignment. Unused accrued Annual Leave up to a maximum of 30 days is carried over in case of a contract extension within the same UN Volunteer assignment. Unused accrued Annual Leave may not be carried over in case of reassignment or a new assignment. • Learning leave: Subject to supervisor approval and exigencies of service, UN Volunteers may request up to ten working days of Learning Leave per consecutive 12 months of the UN Volunteer assignment, starting with the Commencement of Service date, provided the Learning Leave is used within the contract period. • Certified Sick Leave: UN Volunteers are entitled to up to 30 days of certified sick leave based on a 12-month cycle. This amount is reset every 12-month cycle. • Uncertified Sick Leave: UN Volunteers receive seven days of uncertified sick leave working days in a calendar year. This amount will be reset at the established interval period.
