Result of Service 1. To support young people’s and grassroots communities’ capacity to have a voice on disaster resilience issues and a platform on which to share their stories, promoting peer-to-peer dialogue on solutions via online communities; 2. To catalyze relevant, youth-oriented, community-generated content about risk and resilience issues, especially local solutions and opportunities, for multiple media platforms - including YouTube and social media; 3. To empower young people and communities to make best use of digital media storytelling and journalism to enhance their voice and increase the quality and impact of their peer to peer communications; 4. To engage young people more directly with the debates and themes under discussion at UNDRR’s key meetings and events, namely World Tsunami Awareness Day, International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, Global Platform from Risk to Resilience.

Expected duration 2 months

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Plan and schedule the film commissioning process

2. Develop a proposition email to invite networks and organizations to take part.

3. Research across existing contacts and networks (especially those contacts in the resilience field already developed through earlier stages of the project) to determine which groups to be most likely to participate. Also research on methods of engagement, through feedback survey.

4. Send proposition email and also post information on WhatsApp and social accounts. Make any follow up contacts as required.

5. Review submitted story suggestions, selecting 6 and also back up possibilities.

6. Follow up email to 6 best submissions to agree participation with a quick turnaround for confirmation. Delivery deadline and very simple terms of participation stated in acceptance email.

7. Follow up to 6 submission groups to establish development and production process and request further details and agree to proceed.

8. Regular weekly or as required, contact with the 4 submission groups to check progress and provide tailored advice. This can be on story arc, journalism, interviews, shots and sequences and also on technical matters – filming on a smartphone, basic lighting, sound, music, editing software etc.

9. Delivery of films and upload to Earthbeat website and YouTube. Creating showcase web pages for each of the four stories. 10. Potentially, co-organise a youth event (virtual / in-person hybrid event) at the Global Platform, in partnership with UNDRR and perhaps a local Indonesian organization, to present the Earthbeat Challenge and discuss the role of media. 11. Produce a report summarizing activities and achievements.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: First level university degree in communications, journalism, international relations or any other related area is required. Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in advocacy work, communications, journalism, international relations, is required. Language: Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
