This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

  • Support strategic planning issues including mission start-up, engagement with the host Government, UN partners and external actors in respect of multi-dimensional planning processes.
  • Support facilitation joint and integrated planning between Mission components, UN Country Team (UNCT) members and other relevant partners;
  • Support preparation of the Mission Concept, Mission Plan and similar initiatives;
  • Support monitoring of implementation of the budget, including staffing needs and workplace planning;
  • Support provision of authoritative advice to senior management and programme managers on strategic and operational planning policy, procedures and best practices in line with the UN Policy on Integrated Assessment and Planning (IAP);
  • Support ensuring the establishment and operation of integrated field coordination structures, including a senior leadership forum, providing policy guidance and technical assistance on joint strategic and operational issues as required;
  • Support preparing the Mission Results-Based Budget (RBB) framework and performance reports, and prepares inputs as required for audits, budget monitoring and performance reporting;
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the Senior Mission Planning Officer.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in International Relations, Public or Business Administration, Management, Political Science, Social Sciences, Education or other humanities-related fields. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience remark:

Prior experience in international relations, administration, management, education, training, research and policy development is desirable. Experience with UN or other international organizations will be an asset. Management and training skills as well as experience in knowledge management and using learning tools is an advantage.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Area of expertise:

Development programme/project administration, General business management, Other development programme/project experience

Area of expertise details:

  • Prior experience in international relations, administration, management, education, training, research and policy development is desirable. Experience with UN or other international organizations will be an asset. Management and training skills as well as experience in knowledge management and using learning tools is an advantage.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Power-Point, Excel).
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic or another UN official language will be an advantage.
  • Good research and writing skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team of international and national personnel.
  • Affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development and the UN System.
  • Sound security awareness
