Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

It is estimated that more than half of the world's coral reefs have disappeared as a result of climate change and other local anthropogenic threats. Given more than 90% of coral reefs are at risk of extinction by 2050, our time window to act and save this precious ecosystem is quickly closing-in on us. It is imperative to act decisively now. It is estimated that over 1 billion people worldwide depend on coral reefs for their livelihoods and sustenance, with coastal communities in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs) being disproportionately vulnerable to reef degradation. Therefore, effective coral reef conservation and adaptive threat mitigation is necessary to secure the well-being and livelihoods of coastal communities.

To facilitate the global urgency needed for reef protection, leading organizations and key opinion leaders aim to generate the necessary momentum and visibility for coral reefs as a central pillar of the climate action agenda at UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27)1 and beyond.

To maximize impact, visibility and resource mobilisation at COP 27 in November 2022, Strategic Engagement and Planning Support is required.

  • Provide strategic coordination and stakeholder engagement support by providing substantive input to the overall COP 7 work plan, monitoring task delineation
  • Prepare and refine the pitch document for COP27 for the choreography and design of the GFCR's events
  • Draft background and briefing notes for member states, philanthropic and private sector partners that are in line with UN standard requirements.

Candidates should have previous experience in project or event management and also have excellent communication and writing/editing skills. Proficiency in MS Word and Excel is required as well as experience and familiarity with Canva and drafting UN briefing documents.

A degree in public administration or international development-related fields is desirable.
