The GFCR has set 2022 fundraising benchmarks as part of its wider effort to close the ‘coral reef funding gap’ and mobilise action in a two-phased approach. First, the Fund endeavours on a road to Lisbon with an aim to secure pledges for catalytic grants by the end of the UN Ocean Conference. A major milestone on this path will include the Our Ocean Conference in Palau, where calls to action will emphasize the needs of reef ecosystems and set ambitions for reef-based action early in the year. Following the UN Ocean Conference, the GFCR follows the path, including high-level engagement at COP15, toward a set fundraising target at COP27 at the end of the year.
Among the six Online Volunteers, tasks will be dispersed as follows:
Drafting and editing briefs and plans (two volunteers): Provide substantive input to the overall UN Ocean Conference Work Plan; Refine the creative brief for the choreography and design of the GFCR's UN Ocean events in Q2/Q3 2022; and Prepare 10 high-level event briefs; Design and populate event outreach tracker excel; Update general GFCR talking points and produce UN Ocean specific talking points.
Social media content (one volunteer): Prepare Social Media plan for Ocean Conference Engagement; Prepare 8 Social Media creatives and draft posts in anticipation of planned engagements and announcements; Prepare Social Media kit for partners.
Announcements planning (one volunteer): Prepare Communications Working Group email regarding GFCR Ocean Conference Engagement Plan; Draft three press releases related to GFCR's engagement plan and specific planned announcements; Review and input to relevant announcement social media posts; Review and input to relevant talking points.
Media engagement planning (one volunteer): Prepare media engagement plan and relevant media outreach emails for high-level visibility events and announcements; Review and input to relevant press releases.
Conference committments and update monitoring (one volunteer): Prepare and input commitments to conference portal; Monitor UN Ocean website and relevant communications platforms and provide updates to working group; Review and input to overall UN Ocean Conference Work Plan; Review and input to relevant press releases.
Previous experience in event planning, media engagement, social media management or speech writing; Excellent managerial/organisation skills and a solution-oriented attitude; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and within a multicultural team; Good command of information and communication technology; Prior experience with the UN system would be an asset; Prior experience working in Lisbon would be an asset
