The PFP Market Knowledge Unit provides insights and knowledge to UNICEF National Committees and fundraising country offices, as well as other units within PFP.

The PFP Communication and Marketing Section provides UNICEF National Committees and fundraising country offices with guidance and technical support for their public outreach efforts, including individual donations, corporate engagement, and brand and communications. This involves providing market research services covering opinion surveys and market knowledge and insights.

How can you make a difference?

These two internships are being established to increase the Market Knowledge unit’s capacity to prepare country analysis and reporting for an increasing number of markets it is serving, as well as to provide an opportunity for a high-performing student to learn more about UNICEF’s work and specifically how Market Knowledge is used in the PSFR fundraising countries.

  • Internship option 1

Main tasks:

In close coordination with the Market Research Manager six key primary tasks:

  • Carry out desk research on Competitive analysis (from the communication, campaigns and fundraising perspective) including the main international organizations.
  • Co-produce market Peer Review reports for markets for National Committees and fundraising Country Offices to help them learn from best in class in fundraising.
  • Support Market Knowledge unit staff in handling the current workload including desk research and responding to requests for information and analysis.
  • Carry out desk research on topics of particular interest (eg. Covid-19 impact, Mental Health etc.)
  • Depending on workloads and specific needs, the following tasks may be undertaken also, in coordination with the relevant Market Knowledge staff members:
  • Support Market Knowledge unit staff in handling the current workload including desk research and responding to requests for information and analysis.

Deliverables:

  • High quality, accurate and timely Peer Review country reports. At least 5 reports to be done.
  • High quality competitive analysis reports (global and national ones). At least 8 reports to be done.
  • High quality and accurate overview of corporate partnerships of comparators for key markets. At least 3 competitors to be assessed (Red Cross, MSF and Save The Children).

Modality: Paid, Fulltime.

Tentative start date: 25 April 2022.

Duration: 26 weeks.

Workplace: Home-based within CET time zone + or - 2 hours, with the option to work from Geneva office in 2022 if regulations allow (subject to COVID restrictions). (Travel cost to Geneva, Switzerland can be reimbursed up to a max of USD 1,000 ).

Reporting to: The intern will report to the Market Research Manager within the Market Knowledge Unit, who will provide overall direction and guidance, in close collaboration with the Market Research Consultant and Chief of Market Knowledge.

  • Internship option 2

Main tasks:

In close coordination with the Market Research Specialist key primary tasks:

  • Support the preparation of about 25 reports and webinars with local UNICEF offices on Brand Performance, conducting data quality checks and preparing the presentations focusing on the key highlights and insights from the results of the Barometer study for 2022.
  • Attend the webinars and draft summaries of the discussions to share with the countries afterwards.
  • Create regional presentations, linking key insights from different studies: Brand / Fundraising/ Media/ Mystery Shopper

Depending on workloads and specific needs, the following task may be undertaken also, in coordination with the relevant Market Knowledge staff member, Support Market Knowledge unit staff in handling the current workload including desk research and responding to requests for information and analysis.

Deliverables:

  • High quality, accurate and timely country reports and presentations ready for the Country Barometer webinars (around 25)
  • High quality regional insights overviews (around 4)
  • High quality report and presentation on the relevant topic selected

To qualify as a/an [champion or advocate] for every child you will…

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in a relevant background in international affairs, marketing or research.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to.

Also:

  • Additional consideration will be given for any relevant past experience in the charity sector, research, analytics and consumer insights.
  • Experience working for an international organization or NGO, UN or private sector is an asset.
