This assignment contributes to broader United Nations efforts to promote inclusive access to development information and increase public awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), volunteerism, and other UN priority themes in Lao PDR. Effective multilingual communication supports SDG localization, strengthens public engagement, and helps ensure that UNV information is accessible and relevant to diverse communities across the country.

This Online Volunteer assignment offers an opportunity for motivated volunteers to support multilingual communication efforts by translating social media content from English into Lao. Through their contribution, Online Volunteers will help expand access to information, strengthen public engagement, and support the visibility of UN programmes and initiatives in Lao PDR. Volunteers will gain practical experience working with UNV communication materials while contributing to inclusive and accessible dissemination of information.

Under the guidance of the UNV Lao PDR Communications Team, 2 Online Volunteers will:

• Translate social media posts, public information messages and communication materials from English into Lao;
• Ensure translations are accurate, culturally appropriate and written in clear and engaging Lao language;
• Maintain consistency in terminology, messaging and communication style across all translated content;
• Review translated materials for quality, readability and alignment with communication objectives;
• Submit completed translations according to the agreed schedule.

The selected Online Volunteers will receive source materials, communication guidance and relevant reference materials as required. Through this assignment, Online Volunteers will contribute to improving the accessibility and reach of UN communications among Lao-speaking audiences.

Native or near-native proficiency in Lao and fluency in English; Experience in translation, interpretation, writing or editing is desirable; Strong written communication skills and attention to detail; Ability to communicate ideas accurately and clearly across languages; Familiarity with UN terminology, development topics, social media communication or public information work is an asset; Ability to meet agreed deadlines and work independently.
