Overview

Deliver accurate translations and interpretations of documents and records.

You have:

  • At least six months of relevant experience in performing translation and interpretation, preferably in fields related to investigations or law.
  • A University degree from an accredited educational institution in English Language, Translation, or a related discipline is required.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
  • Ability to operate personal computers and work on MS Office and database applications.
  • Sound drafting skills in both English and Arabic.

Result of Service

The Translation and Interpretation Assistant will deliver accurate translations of documents and records related to DIOS investigations and complaints, ensuring clarity and consistency in both Arabic and English. They will provide real-time interpretation during interviews with witnesses, victims, subjects, and other parties, supporting effective communication. Additionally, the assistant will produce concise summaries of misconduct allegations as directed by the Intake Investigations Officer and translate new DIOS forms and investigation policies into Arabic as needed. The services provided will contribute to the efficiency and integrity of DIOS investigative processes.

Expected duration

An initial 2-month contract, with the possibility of an extension for another 8 months based on performance

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides accurate translation of documents and records associated with DIOS Investigations and/or complaints from Arabic to English and vice-versa; - Undertakes contemporaneous translation/interpretation during DIOS interviews with witnesses, victims and or subjects or others; - Produces brief summaries to allegations of misconduct as instructed by the Intake Investigations Officer; - Prepares Arabic translation to new forms and DIOS Investigations policies as required; - Performs other duties as required by Intake Investigator as a whole; - Maintains strict confidentiality pertaining to all above outlined duties; - Perform other duties are required.

Qualifications/special skills

Work Experience - At least six months of relevant experience in performing translation and interpretation, preferably in fields related to investigations or law is required. - A University degree from an accredited educational institution in English Language, Translation, or a related discipline is required. - Experience in working as a Translator is desirable. - Experience working in the United Nations is desirable. Languages

Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
