Making progress towards gender equality, as set out in the Sustainable Development Goals, requires systematic and innovative approaches. One such approach is Gender-Responsive Budgeting (GRB) which is a fiscal planning and allocation process that ensures government budgets address and mitigate gender-based disparities and promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
GRB has played an important role in driving gender equality progress within the Portuguese-speaking nations of Africa along with Timor Leste, collectively referred to as the PALOP-TL countries. This progress was boosted by the Pro PALOP-TL SAI program, implemented by UNDP with generous support from the European Union.
We are seeking [2] Online Volunteers to support us by translating [the Handbook on Gender-responsive budgeting and Public Expenditure] on [Gender issues] from [Portuguese] to [English]. To this end the Online Volunteers are asked: - To translate the document, which is [135 pages] long into [English] - Ensure the translation is concise, in line with our communications guidelines, and fits the audience
The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with the document in the original language and will receive guidance on the target audience and our communications guidelines as well as other guidance as needed.
The Online Volunteers will have the opportunity to build connections with the [Gender team] at [UNDP] and learn about the ways in which the translated product contributes to [the integration of the gender dimension into the planning and budgetary cycles].
Candidates should be native in [Portuguese] and fluent in [English]. Familiarity with technical terms related to [Gender and Gender-responsive budgeting] will be considered an advantage. Previous translation experience is considered an asset.
