Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

One of the main gaps in social protection in developing countries remains the limited coverage of contributory schemes among agricultural workers, especially in regions where the agricultural sector is essential for livelihoods, such as the Near East and North Africa (NENA) region. Countries in the region have been discussing reforms of their social protection systems, including options to extend the coverage of contributory schemes to workers who have been traditionally excluded. Against this background, the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG), the FAO Regional Office for the NENA and the ILO Regional Office for the Arab States joined forces to further discuss policy options, highlighting the trade-offs that NENA countries face to expand social insurance for agricultural workers. Among other activities, a series of key informant interviews with agricultural workers representatives of countries in the region are being conducted.

The IPC-IG research team is holding key informant interviews with agricultural workers representatives in the Near East and North Africa (NENA) region in order to collect information and analyse the constraints and opportunities to enhance the coverage of social insurance schemes for rural populations. To help in this process, the IPC-IG is looking for online volunteers to provide support with interviews' transcription and translations (Arabic-English). In collaboration with IPC-IG's researchers, the selected candidates will: (i) transcribe interviews in Arabic, (ii) translate interviews transcription from Arabic into English, (iii) review texts and transcriptions.

Fluency in Arabic – mandatory; Fluency in English – mandatory; Independent internet and laptop access – mandatory; Experience in interview’s transcription and translation – highly desirable; Language, translation and communication background – highly desirable. Knowledge of social protection – highly desirable. Knowledge of any other languages spoken in NENA is an asset.
