Background ----------

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 50 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity, and hope to millions uprooted and struggling to endure.

In Italy and Germany, IRC focuses on protection, economic well-being, education and empowerment, and is currently implementing an AMIF- funded project on anti-trafficking.

Context of the Assignment -------------------------

The DIRECT project (Develop coordInation with migRants to Enhance inClusion of Trafficked persons) aims at facilitating the early identification of victims of trafficking in persons and increasing prevention through the collaboration with migrant-led organizations, as well as promoting the integration of third-country national victims of trafficking. The project is implemented in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Greece.

As part of the DIRECT project, in Italy IRC will train first responders working in reception centers and migrant-led organizations to increase their capacity to support unaccompanied minors and women who are mothers at risk or victims of trafficking. The training will provide the staff with theoretical and practical tools on child protection, with a focus on adolescents with a migration background, child trafficking and life skills development group sessions, and on parenting support.

Purpose of the Assignment --------------------------

IRC is currently looking for one facilitator who will deliver training on child protection and on parenting, based on the IRC existing training packages, to first responders working in reception centers, partner organizations, and migrant-led organizations offering direct support services, in Sicily and potentially in Lombardy and Lazio.

SCOPE OF WORK

Specific objectives of the assignment --------------------------------------

The main responsibilities of the Child Protection Training Facilitator will include:

- Conduct 8-hour training on child protection, with a focus on adolescents with a migration background, child trafficking and life skills group sessions, to first responders working in reception centers or other organizations supporting unaccompanied minors. - Conduct 8-hour training on parenting to first responders working in reception centers or other organizations supporting women at risk or victims of trafficking who are mothers. - Adjust training packages according to first responders’ training needs. - Ensure monitoring and evaluation of training activities based on relevant M&E tools provided by the IRC. - At the end of each training, report on activities, challenges and results to the Program Manager. - Produce a written final report.

Deliverables ------------

- Delivery of 6 in-person trainings of 8 hours each on child protection to reception centers’ staff or other first responders working in organizations supporting unaccompanied minors at risk or victims of trafficking and exploitation. - Delivery of 6 in-person trainings of 8 hours each on parenting to reception centers’ staff or other first responders working in organizations supporting women at risk or victims of trafficking who are mothers. - Final report of the activities and results.

Timeframe ---------

March 10, 2024 – July 10, 2024

Estimated effort: approx. 105 working hours.

Competencies and skills -----------------------

· An advanced university degree in psychology, child development, education, social studies or other relevant social sciences

· A minimum of seven years professional experience in child protection and women protection and empowerment

· Experience in training facilitation, especially on child protection

· Professional experience with victims of human trafficking

· Ability to work independently and to meet the deadlines

· Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate with diverse people

· Proficiency in Italian; English desirable

· Availability to travel across Sicily and to Milan and/or Rome

· Preferably based in Sicily

· Driving license (B)
