What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The Global LnD team contributes to the ICRC’s operations by offering institutional learning and development paths which support all staff members to effectively and efficiently take on their present and future roles. LnD delivers all core institutional learning programs. It also contributes to the onboarding of newly hired staff members by providing adequate training. It is a global team of over 90 staff worldwide.

The post holder will support this effort by assisting in the development and implementation of communication initiatives and learning events, aimed principally for internal stakeholders

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

Support the LnD Division in different communication projects:

  • Contribute to the thinking process on external and internal communication regarding the LnD activities, as part of the overall HR department.
  • Contribute to the creation of communication strategies, plans, and tools to implement LnD strategies.
  • Design, publish and edit content (including announcements, infographics, & videos) through the organization’s intranet software.
  • Contribute to improve the communication and visibility of LnD services and activities.
  • Contribute to the management of LnD virtual communities (Jive), including monitoring community spaces and staff question boards for issues relating to the LnD.
  • Provide support to LnD management team to optimize the communication and promote the partnerships with external institutions (announcements, presentations, events).
  • Support LnD management in the organization of learning events (e.g, developing an annual calendar with specific audiences, coordination with speakers, proposal for design, coordination and logistics with internal and external partners).
  • Coordinate the organization of Associate / Trainee learning and peer exchange events
  • Coordinate regularly with the internal communication team of the HR department and Communications & Information Management department on possible alignments and opportunities
  • Coordinate LnD contributions for internal newsletters and communication eventsMeasure and assess LnD communication effectiveness through data collection, surveys, and focus groups

Certifications / Education required

  • University degree in marketing, communication, public relations or related field.

Important information: Only individuals enrolled in higher education or who have recently completed their studies are eligible to be trainees/associates. For candidates to be eligible they must have a maximum of one year’s professional experience after graduation (related to the post) or two years if they have been in previous traineeships.

Desired profile and skills

  • Knowledge of current communication and tools, including digital platforms.
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills (French an asset).
  • Well organized and detail oriented.
  • Strong analytical and organizational capacity.
  • Autonomy and entrepreneurship.
  • Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to adapt to workload that varies and to work under pressure.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Graphic design skills (Canva, Piktochart, Vyond) an asset.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation an asset.
  • Knowledge of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement an asset.
