UNICEF Pacific is a multi-country office that promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child in the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. The UNICEF Pacific Multi-country Office is located in Suva, Fiji. There are Field Offices in Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, and Kiribati. These 14 Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) are home to 2.4 million people, close to one million children, living on more than 660 islands and atolls stretching across 17.2 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean.

How can you make a difference?

The Technology for Development (T4D) Officer will assist UNICEF Pacific with the identification, assessment, and integration of digital technologies into UNICEF programming, strengthening internal capacity to lead and support T4D related projects, identifying and engaging with key partners, identifying reusable and replicable technical building blocks and maximizing potential for T4D scale-up and roll-out. The officer will also liaise with all stakeholders to build a preferred set of solutions with the aim to lower the barrier of entry and increase solution portability to allow for scale up.

Under the overall guidance of the Innovation Specialist (T4D and Youth), the T4D Officer works closely with sectoral programme colleagues and implementing partners to provide technical, support with the implementation of UNICEF innovation tools, including RapidPro, U-Report, ONA and Internet of Good Things, to gather real-time information among duty bearers and right holders and inform adjustments of program needs to achieve better results for children.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A University degree in information technology management, business administration, international relations, community development, or other related social science fields.
  • A minimum of one year of professional experience in information technology management and business operations in a large international organization and/or corporation is required.

    Experience in designing or deploying tools appropriate to low-bandwidth environments and/or with RapidPro, OpenDataKit (ODK), DHIS2, and other open-source and digital public good technologies, and deploying, maintaining, and rolling out these technologies is highly desirable.

  • Experience in a UN organization is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
