Overview

Support the design and implementation of environmental projects in the Caribbean.

You have:

  • A university degree in environmental studies, sustainable development, natural resource management, international relations, project management, or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience in a similar capacity, preferably with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies.
  • Experience in developing project documents, concept notes, or proposals, preferably within the context of international or regional organizations.
  • Ability to conduct assessments, compile and analyze data, and synthesize findings to inform project planning and implementation.
  • Familiarity with project monitoring frameworks, reporting mechanisms, and evaluating programme performance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports and presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with knowledge of project management or data analysis tools considered an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and adapt to shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Understanding of key environmental and sustainable development issues affecting the Caribbean region is desirable.

This assignment supports sustainable human development by contributing to the design and implementation of environmental projects that address regional priorities and align with UNEP’s strategic goals. By providing technical and administrative support, it enhances project effectiveness, promotes stakeholder collaboration, and strengthens institutional capacity to deliver impactful and sustainable environmental solutions in the Caribbean.

The UNEP component of the Zero Waste in the Caribbean Project is implemented under the overall guidance of the Head of the Caribbean Sub-Regional Office (CSRO) in Jamaica and the UNEP Regional Coordinator on Chemicals and Pollution in Panama. The Online Volunteers will work under the supervision of the Regional Project Coordinator and the Project Administrative Assistant.

A total of four Online Volunteers are requested, with one volunteer assigned to each of the following areas:

  1. Documentation & Research Support • Conduct background research on waste management best practices, circular economy models, and relevant regional case studies. • Assist in preparing and formatting project documents, reports, and presentations. • Support the development of concept notes for proposed initiatives, events, and pilot projects, including: o Gathering and analyzing data. o Drafting narrative sections (background, objectives, expected results). o Coordinating input from technical experts and stakeholders.
  2. Monitoring and Reporting • Assist in monitoring the implementation of projects and programmes. • Support the preparation of progress reports and provide recommendations for follow-up activities.
  3. Data Management & Analysis • Assist in maintaining the project databases, ensuring information is up to date and accurate. • Collect, clean, and compile project data from multiple sources (consultants, partners, field visits). • Generate data visualizations and charts for project reports and presentations.
  4. Technical Coordination • Liaise with consultants and technical specialists to track deliverables and timelines. • Support the review and formatting of technical reports before submission to the Project Manager. • Assist in monitoring progress against the workplan.

We kindly request one Online Volunteer per task, ensuring focused and effective support in each area.

Required Experience: 4 years.
