OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Trauma and Emergency Care Programme complements WHO's normative role with an implementing component, playing an instrumental role in ensuring that trauma & emergency care across the oPt is built on the notion of supporting national structure and building sustainable local capacity to provide trauma care.WHO's experience in trauma management shows the various component of the continuum of care throughout the humanitarian programme cycle, need to be carefully managed and adapted to often changing situations and capacity contexts:Quality assessments, first aid and triage, trauma stabilization points, referral and patient transfer, surgical interventions, post-operative care and rehabilitation, the integration of mental health and psychosocial support at various stages of trauma care, and adaptation to the increasing demand for distance-training, are the important main objectives of the Programme. Additionally, the Programme supportsand empowers the overall management of the emergency and trauma pathway, such as supply management, referral and patient information, and coordination with key actors and implementers, communications and advocacy

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. Provide direct support to countries to build capacity and implement a range of WHO resources, including the Basic Emergency Care course, triage, checklists and clinical forms.

2. Assist with communication and coordination with regional and country level partners for rollout of the Global Emergency and Trauma Care Initiative.

3. Identify targets for improvement of emergency care delivery based on analyses of data from the WHO International Registry for Trauma and Emergency Care.

4. Assist with research for and development of technical documents and scientific articles on emergency care in limited resource settings.

5. Assist as needed with other activities of the ETA programme

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: First University degree in Medicine with specialization in emergency medicine or surgery. Some formal training in Public Health. Desirable: Post graduate degree in public health.

Experience

Essential: Minimum 5 years of experience working in the area of emergency and trauma care. Scholarly publication(s) in the area of emergency and trauma care. Desirable: Experience in public health and epidemiology. Experience within WHO

Skills

Extensive knowledge of clinical emergency and trauma care. Excellent written and spoken English, including the ability to write documents in a clear and concise manner tailored to the needs of the intended audience, including scientific publications.Ability to work with partners within and outside WHO. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Results orientated. Knowledge of public health and epidemiology.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 60,962 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3216 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
