Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

In 2021 UNDP’s Somali Women Media Project (SWoMP), created the country’s first all-women media team – Bilan Media – and continues to provide them with support to challenge adverse gender norms, open new opportunities for women in professional roles and bring new subjects to public debate. In addition, the project supports other women journalists in the Federal Member States as well as advocating more generally for women journalists’ workplace rights and against online harassment.

In support of these efforts, UNDP seeks to engage an English teacher for women journalists in Somalia, with a focus on news reporting and business English.

Under the overall authority of the SWoMP Project Manager, the Online Volunteer will provide:

  • 14 hours’ online teaching per week for Bilan journalists in Mogadishu (two groups of 3 journalists) and in five Federal Member States (one group of two students in each state). Classes will be 1 hour delivered twice a week for each group. (Scheduling and groups can be adjusted after assessment of students if needed.)

Candidates should have professional experience in teaching English. Professional qualifications in teaching English as a second language is an advantage.
