The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) is an annual and inclusive intergovernmental forum and a regional platform for supporting countries in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development while serving as a regional preparatory meeting to the high-level political forum. The Forum provides a regional perspective on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda by identifying regional trends and consolidating and sharing best practices and lessons learned. The Forum takes into consideration the contributions of United Nations system bodies (at the regional level), other regional and sub regional organizations, and relevant stakeholders. The APFSD also supports follow-up and review of progress on the 2030 Agenda at the regional level.

The UN Volunteer will support the preparation of the APFSD and Follow-up and Review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the Pacific. The volunteer will support engagement across ESCAP teams and with regional UN system bodies through organizational and substantive support to side events, SDG Profiles, SDG Roundtables as well as communication and outreach throughout the full cycle of the APFSD.

Under the direct supervision of Chief of the Section on Sustainable Development and Countries in Special Situations in the Office of the Executive Secretary, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Support organization and preparation of APFSD side-events including drafting the call for proposals, liaising and coordinating with side-event organizers, ESCAP Conference Management Unit, and APFSD webmaster • Collaborate with APFSD and Communications teams to craft communications and out-reach plans, develop communications content and materials including social media posts, blogs, and APFSD website updates to bring visibility to the event, and strengthen engagement by accurately targeting audiences and increasing outreach. • Support preparation of SDG Profiles and Round Tables for the SDGs under review. This includes follow-up with lead and co-lead authors and Round Table coordinators to ensure timelines are on track, and Round Tables speakers, timelines, presentations, note-takers, and rapporteurs are confirmed and prepared • Conduct background research for documents to support and feed into the APFSD and its sub regional preparatory forums. • Support the APFSD team with organizational and preparatory processes as needed.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

International development, economics, environment, governance, public administration, political science, diplomacy or related field. • socio-economic analysis and development trends in Asia and the Pacific • experience of organizing online and face-to-face events • good communication skills and knowledge of online communication • strong organization and time management skills • excellent writing skills in English, and experience taking notes and synthesizing key points from meetings.
