Supporting Travaux Preparatoires of the Declaration on the Right to Development

The Declaration on the Right to Development was adopted in 1986 and remains the most important document on the Right to Development so far. Just as there are published travaux prepartoires for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Right to Development Section would also like to publish the records of the drafting history for the Declaration of the Right to Development, to inform its interpretation.

The Right to Development Section is seeking to publish the travaux preparatoires of the 1986 Declaration on the Right to Development. The previously analogous records of the drafting history of the declaration have been scanned and converted into Word Documents. This documents need to be checked against the original scans, just as the chronological order and the cluster by organ need to checked. Further, the records need some revision: Small mistakes need to be corrected, if the original meaning is unclear '[sic]' needs to be added, words in UPPER CASE need to be written in normal letters whereas Underlined words should be written in italics. Further the footnotes will most likely need to be recreated, also the counting needs to be corrected.

We are looking for six volunteers, one for each year as we have records from the years 1981 to 1986. The documents in the year 1981 amount to 205 pages, in 1982 there 316 pages of records, in 1983 there are 307 pages, in 1984 there are 301, in 1985 there are 283 and in 1986 there are 216. We roughly estimate that ten pages can be completed per hour, however the quality of the scans varies and thus the required time per document will vary too.

No specific skills or experience is required, however we need people who are working diligently and precisely to make sure the records are correctly displayed. An interest in international law and legal interpretation is probably beneficial to the task.
