The upcoming House of Representatives Election in March 2026 marks an important juncture in Nepal. The Elections Commission of Nepal (ECN) emphasizes voter education as a cornerstone of democratic participation and electoral integrity. Voter education has played a vital role in previous elections, most notably, community-based “mock polling” programs supported by ECN and UNDP in 29 districts helped approximately 150,000 voters understand how to correctly mark ballots, significantly reducing invalid votes and enhancing confidence in the process. Building on these efforts and increasing digital engagement by ECN in recent elections such as the ECN’s “My Vote” campaign, aims to harness digital outreach, social media, and peer-to-peer engagement to mobilize citizens, particularly young and first-time voters.
- Awareness Raising:
The main agenda of the "My Vote Matters" campaign is to raise awareness among people about voter education and voting rights. Additionally, online volunteers will be requested to share any potential misleading content linked to elections that they observe for improved understanding of the information environment of elections.
- Promoting existing social media content developed by the Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) and UNDP:
• The volunteers will be asked to share/post the flyer, videos, PSAs, and other social media content through their personal social media handles.
• Plan social media posting, follow the guidelines provided
• Disseminate at least 15 messages or content.
• Share links to any misleading online content relating to elections identified on social media platforms in the format provided.
• Track and report engagement metrics daily by updating a shared Google Sheet, verified by the Group Coordinator (s).
• Create an online challenge among volunteers: Each volunteer must tag five people, and those who tag five people, and so on, from their social media (Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, etc.).
• Each group will be responsible for a campaign report at the end of the assignment, totaling overall engagement delivered in the format provided by UNDP to support the social media monitoring unit of the ECN.
UNDP will provide all campaign materials, templates, and guidance.
All OV will be asked to attend a mandatory orientation session (TBD). The day-to-day point of contact will be the Online Volunteer Coordinator under the guidance and supervision of UNDP’s Public Outreach, Strategic Communications, and Media Engagement Specialist, who will liaise with the Elections Commission of Nepal (ECN) on all matters relating to the campaign.
21 Online Volunteers (3 from each province) will serve as Group Coordinators, each coordinating a group of approximately 14 Online Volunteers. Group Coordinator will support their assigned group by consistently posting, troubleshooting questions, and ensuring engagement metrics are accurately tracked and submitted.
If you are interested in serving as a Group Coordinator, please indicate this in your motivation statement.
Time Frame: Online mobilization is planned from mid-February to the first week of March 2026. Candidates may apply until mid February.
Interested online volunteers must be listed on the ECN Voter Registration List and have the social media account, and completed secondary education.
