The tasks for this Online Volunteer assignment will be to translate content from the iDiaspora Platform in coordination with the iDiaspora Team within IOM. The translation would generally be from English to French or Spanish in order to populate the Platforms multilingual functionality. Online Volunteers will be assigned specific content weekly to translate within a given timeframe and all translations will be review before going live on the Platform. We expect 1 to 2 contents to be translated by each Online Volunteer per week. Online Volunteers will be expected to inform the iDiaspora Team in case they are unable to complete the assignment within the allotted time so that it can be reassigned if needed. Volunteers will need to create their own accounts on the Platform in order to interact with it independently as needed. Furthermore, volunteers will be encouraged to share the translated content on social media to relevant groups and networks.

iDiaspora was initially conceived as a vehicle through which diaspora communities could share their concerns, hopes and ideas during the consultation process for the Global Compact for Migration. During initial consultations with diaspora communities and other partners, it became clear to the iDiaspora team that there was a wider appetite for something more meaningful through the platform. iDiaspora is a community driven digital venue, facilitated by IOM, designed to empower diaspora engagement in the 21st century. iDiaspora’s vision is to be the go-to venue for diaspora engagement and knowledge, now and into the future. iDiaspora will provide interactive and easy access to global connections, content, and commentary on diaspora engagement. Designed as an evolving space, the platform will actively seek to develop a portfolio of products to develop diaspora engagement. The Online Volunteers will directly contribute to expanding the reach of the iDiaspora Platform and building its online community by ensuring the accessibility of the Platform’s content to a multi-lingual audience.
